I am new here

I just started playing chess.com a few days ago, and I had only played about 5 learning games years ago and I wanted to know if anyone could teach me some really good opening checkmates because all of the ones I know always get stopped very fast and I am trying to get more ELO because I am only 440 ELO.

Welcome to the community, @Gardian1_2! This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxVP2q7rntc) is quite useful, it has a lot of checkmates I came across when I first started out playing chess. Another thing which might help you (and I'm sure a lot of users here will say this) is completing a LOT of puzzles, either on Lichess or here on Chess.com. I suggest you dedicate some time to each part of the game - openings/opening theory, middle games, endgames and tactics. The progress won't be immediate but in the long run, puzzles help a lot!

Hope this helps and all the best with your future games

Try ICBM opening. Let me know how far you can go with it.

Gardian1_1

I tried multiple times to use the ICBM opening and I can never get anybody to follow along the opening and most of the times I can't even get them to play d5.

hi guys

lennylynx

Learning the trick mates is not going to help you get good at chess, Gard. you must learn to open safely, develop your pieces and get castled.

A chess teacher once said: " I have 3 words for the beginning chess player, develop, develop, develop."

Welcome to chess.com

Gardian1_1

So I should focus on doing a castle first? What piece should I develop first?

If you need help on bullet then I gotchu
Gardian1_1

I just need help in general, I typically play 30 minute rapids so I don't have to worry about running out of time really fast, but I am also trying to get ELO fast.

lennylynx

Fully developed is with every power piece off the back rank and the rooks united on the back rank. Focus on getting there safely, don't worry about checkmate early unless you see an opening.

lennylynx

30 second games are different, it's not even chess really, mouse racing.

Gardian1_1

Ok. I think I can do that.

lennylynx

You want to play games long enough that you have time to think and figure things out.

lennylynx

Real chess games in real tournaments allow 2 hours for the first 40 moves, extra time if it goes longer than that. That's chess.

lennylynx

If you just want to play bullet. Lion can help you out.

Lion for short games, lynx for long, choose your cat!
