you can't increase your rating if you suck. bottom line. You have to learn to improve.

I've met incredible players by playing unrated. You learn a lot more. Most individuals have very strong ratings potentially much stronger than their rated play; that is the beauty of unrated chess.

I haven't met IMs yet nor anyone to teach chess, but plenty beyond plenty of talented players.
