Me and my friend had a bet, who can improve more. At the moment im rated around 1800, 1826 to be exact and he has around 1690. True, he is more into chess than i am so we made a bet. I study 5 days a week for 2 hours with my mentor nad do no work at home (its enough what i do at the class)and he has a SCHEDULE :)) in which he gets up every morning does an hour of tactics, ( from something call crt - art 3.0??) studies books, like he has 50 in pdf format, and like thats not enough he analyses games from capablanca (b y book order) and reads MCO like 30 minutes a day. Alltogether he spends more than 40 hours a week studying chess. But as i know and surely you do, its nothing without a mentor. So 100 dollar bet, what do you think :)

PS. Time expires in 6 months, possible him to beat me :)?

I need more accurate information, because I just played through one of your games where a person rated 950 completely overwhelmed you. Are you sure you're rated 1800?

That is the mystery of chess, Lasker did say anyone can become a master level chess player. What we have to do to become the master level chess player is the hard part. The correct approach or most effective way is the mystery. Those ratings FIDE or USCF or ONLINE ? I would say 6 months cheszzic will still be the higher rated.

So you're rated 1826 FIDE?

You haven't defined the parameters of the bet very well. All he has to do to win is beat you in 6 months? What kind of ratings are we talking about? Gotta be specific- right now I'm 1873 in chess.com correspondence but 1060 USCF. What does "improve more" mean? It will be much easier for him to gain 50 rating points than it will be for you to do the same.

i wouldnt say so, if the mentor is really good....

Well, a couple things to consider. He's at a lower level, which means the learning is easier. He's putting in 4x more effort based on hours spent, though you probably have more quality in your hours.

At the end of 6 months, it could go either way.

I think your sister will improve more than both of youLaughing

Interesting way to force your self to improve.

Both will play better, and that's the point.

I too did play through your game. You are not an 1800 player. A miss type I would suggest.

Weird. You and your friend study and spend that many hours for 6 months for just that US$ 100? Not a good motivation for both of you. And top of that it's the wrong motivation. And You both will not get anywhere, because you both will give up before 6 months for watching TV rather than studying. That's my bet!

ofc they just doing it just for the honor, a mentor probably cost more than 100 dollar for 6 month

If they do it for honor, then don't just go US$ 100, but grounded for 1 month not going out anywhere. Or if one of them meets a person on the street he must say : "Hello. I am a loser. Thank you. I am loser. I am loser. I am a loser". To any persons they meet for 1 month.

have you ever seen the movie, where two rich guys bet if one could take a random guy from the street and make him a winner?

Maybe its just me who cant find the right word for it, but they could be serious.

I watched it. It's not the same thing. That is a movie. This is internet.

Believe it, both of them will give up before 6 months. They don't have good motivation and they both will lose. US$ 100 is not motivation to play chess anyway.

100$ would be a pretty good motivator if you are 12 years old!
