I did it: 1700 in Daily Chess!

One year ago I was rated 1523 in Daily Chess.

After I began to play more carefully and improved my tactics my rating began to raise continuously.

Today I could reached my goal for 2018. With 1701 I am still of course a rather weak player, but one year ago it seemed to me almost impossible to win games against people rated 1600+.

My goal for 2019 is to reach 1800. Not sure if this is realistic, but I will really give a go with tactics and see how far I can come.

Merry Christmas my friends!

Cheers to improvement!! It's always awesome to see objective results for all of that subjective work you're putting into the game. I hope you make 1800 next year!

I've not played seriously for two years (LOTS of bullet and blitz, but no effort to study or improve), but I recently dusted off the toolbox and started really working at chess. I hope to see at least 1600 by the end of the year....I've been a C class player with B class knowledge for way too long!

Thanks! I am giving a break with blitz, not because I think it is not useful for improvement, but I perceive he whole thing as a little bit addictive. And I tend to skip the analysis, eager to play the next game.

I like Daily, as I can invest a lot of time in the moves (I am often surprise how bad I can play even having plenty of time to look at a position). And I am more motivated to go through he game seriously to see where I could play better.

I hope you will reach soon 1600! If you need somebody to analyse together a finished game, let me know. It is a nice experience to go through games with a buddy.

Excellent!  I hit 1800 this year and am looking for 1900 in 2019 and 2000 eventually.

I am happy to stay over 1700 in the last day of the year. With 1718 I have actually my best rating in Daily Chess, and I am not very far from 93 % percentile. I know, still rather weak, but I have the impression I can go on improving, I hope I can get 1800 until the end of 2019.

Interestingly I have the impression that my rapid game deteriorated a lot since I began to focus so much on Daily Chess. Probably because I got extremely lazy in calculating. I will begin to play regularly rapid or even longer games in 2019.

After a winning already in the opening yesterday I went to 1723. This was the first win in the tournament 2019 Chess.com Daily Chess Championship in my group, perhaps the first in the whole tournament?

Congrats. I was hoping to reach 2200 in 2018.

2351, this is amazing! Can you give me some advice to improve? I mean, I have to learn, improve the opening, make tactics, etc. But is there other things that are important in Daily? Do you use Chessbase?

An update: I am since yesterday  at 1732, my best rating so far. I think that 1800 until end of the year is a realistic goal if things go on like this. I am confident that I can improve a lot, I since I didn't yet do a serious analysis of my games, neither I did a list of my most common mistakes.

nice, I was confident you could do it and I am confident you can pas 1800 as well.

When you pass 1800, my suggestion would be to study endgames as I will do, when I will start playing daily again.  For the moment I am improving in blitz, then will do some rapid and then will see how far I can get in daily by studying endgames. I know I am doing it the opposite way than all teachers suggest, but I prefer to work at where I am weak.

I have the impression that choosing favorable endgames is what could make a difference in high rated daily games. Maybe even 1800 is premature for that, but at 2000+, I am pretty sure that the endgame will be where the games will be decided (I don't expect much missed tactics or blunders at that level). This is my plan for daily.

Anyways, I am glad for you and wish you to reach 1800 inside 2019. It is nice to see active members succeeding their goals and share it with the rest of us.

Thanks. Yes, I did already some work on endgames, from the book 100 Endgames You Should Know. But I still have to finish it. I often have a look at my endgames books when I can make a transition to endgames in a Daily game. I could so save at least to games with material down. Funny how general considerations can be helpful in a practical game.

An update about my rating in Daily Chess. I didn’t play much online games. For a while I gave a break with Daily Chess (I lost somehow the motivation after losing against two cheaters - okay, I got the points back but somehow I felt less kin to play in this modus).

Now I am back and I am slowly improving again. I began to play 1.e4 (instead of 1.d4 and QG) and with Black I am trying again the French (the Sicilian seems to wild for me, I don’t know exactly what I am doing).

I am playing a tournament where I was able to forget during my analysis that my bishop was attacked by a pawn! And I lost against a strong opponent, but I won an interesting game against the same player, getting second place in the group (without the blunder with the bishop I would be first).

Now I am 1746, and I am really looking forward to pass 1750! This is of course still incredible weak, but it is nice to set goals in chess. And the next step will be of course 1800, but I can’t imagine to get there until the end of 2019. But we all are allow to dream, right?
