Chess.com used to be a great platform, but now it’s an overpriced mess with constant bugs and shady monetization tactics. The site crashes mid-game, lags during critical moves, and somehow always blames the user’s internet—convenient, right? Don’t get me started on the matchmaking system, which either throws you against bots disguised as grandmasters or clueless beginners. It’s as if they’re trying to make the rating system completely meaningless.

And unless you’re willing to cough up a monthly fee, you’re bombarded with ads and have almost no access to decent analysis tools. Every other feature is locked behind a paywall. Want to review your game? That’ll be $10 a month. Want to watch your blunders in slow-mo? Fork it over.

Customer support? Good luck. You’ll get a generic copy-paste response after waiting for days—if you’re lucky enough to get a reply at all.

It’s clear Chess.com is more focused on squeezing every last cent from users than on improving the actual chess experience. You’d think with all the money they’re raking in, they could fix their broken app and clunky website. But nope—just more half-baked updates and flashy cosmetics no one asked for.

If you actually care about chess, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This site is a pawn in the game of corporate greed.
