That's funny, we have Nigel Short. Oh and the UK is home to the #1 university in the world - Cambridge. It's a shame the OP didn't include his country for such a thread.

DrSpudnik

The OP doesn't disclose his/her own country. Perhaps they asked him to remain anonymous.

The Op's played 1700 odd Blitz games and weighs in at...649. Who does he play chess against, monkeys at the zoo?

My favorite UK player is John D.M. Nunn. If he had decided to play chess full time instead of becoming acquiring a doctorate, he could. have. gone. all. the. way!  Imagine that, wanting to do something more meaningful with your life.

I understand there are some up and coming young players in Britain, but nothing like the 80's when they had Nunn, Speelman and Short in the top ten.

it's pretty tough deciding what's more or less meaningful, chess or finite H-spaces.

Some of those monkeys are badass.

Actually, didn't Fischer lose his US citizenship to Soviet Union back then?

Looks like I am the only real American here because Booby Fischer obviously immigrated from Israel.

First of all, his name was "Bobby", not "Booby". Secondly, Fischer was born in 1943, before the foundation of the State of Israel. Try again, dumbass.

The OP is a reincarnation of superking500, who claimed to be American.

It depends on how you define a real American. From the most objective standpoint, 99.99999% of people in the US aren't actually real Americans. In some sort of way, they're immigrants, or, their ancestors were centuries ago. Only people born from Native Americans are true Americans in that sense because they colonized the place first than anyone else. But, again, that depends how you define it.

Please do define what you mean as native American. Because if the criteria is that you were here originally its been proven with DNA tests that Native Americans (which I assume are those people that the US government has defined as such) are of Asian decent. So they immigrated here as well (most likely when there was an ice or land bridge) just long before others did.  So your idea of Native needs to be clarified.  IMO its just a polical game. I can not think of one single country in the world that is populated by "natives" by the definition you are suggesting.

Indeed, your last statement clears things up a little bit. The only continent with people that are native to the actual place is Africe and that's because humans originated there, apparently. But, yes, in any case, those "Asians" who weren't really Asians, they were Africans who immigrated to Asia and with time "became" Asians, that turned out to be the first people to ever come to America and stayed in it, yes, those are the ones who I would call Native Americans. Even though you already said it yourself, they're not really Native Americans because really, objectively speaking they're Africans. But, yes, assuming that they eventually just stayed in the continent and pretty much "owned" (they didn't own it per se, I just can't find another word to say what I meant to say), they would be considered Native Americans by many people. Yeah. Assuming those are the real native Americans, we could say everyone else are just immigrants.

Even if the case was that they weren't true Americans because they came from Asia, and those Asians actually came from Africa, then my point would again be proved true: no one is really an American. Not a practical statement considering the standpoint of the OP, but yes, that's what I was talking about

morphy, steinetz, lasker, capablanca, fisher, all were or became american citizens. America is a new nation. Kasparov is a regular commentator on fox and that means he lives here a significant amount during the year. Maybe he is next...

It's worth to note that native americans do not have a "land = property" mentality as we dumb westerns...thank you Europe for reducing everything into a pile of sh... :-)

I was hoping this would be about the USCF's poor promotion of chess and poor FIDE integration and the English Federation's similar problems.

You've been on the site long enough to know better. Laughing

Well I've been thinking about Hawaii, Fiji and Easter island lately too. It's kinda sad how they've never had world champions either. I have this poem I want to write about it. I have one line penned so far. It goes ....

"not a champ in sight, just potato blight"
