I find 'win quick' gambits disgusting

Well, you've been playing for 10 years and you're as good as a kid who has been playing 2 months. If you're fine with that more power to you... and like I said, it means you're actually intelligent, so don't take this as an insult.

llama

By the way, I've been playing for almost 20 years.

The only creative idea I have is taking my opponents out of book so that I can copy the hundreds of thematic ideas I've seen and remembered.

Which isn't very creative.

I’ve been playing online for two months so that may add up, all the same I’m not trapped in my ratings. I’m solving puzzles mate in three, mate in twos and looking at whatever theory I can get my hands on. I played someone a few weeks ago whose best rating was 1917 and identical puzzle score and I came out on top during the blitz game which lasted five minutes. So putting in my time is continuing to pay off. Oh, Yeah since were supposed to be talking gambits, I exercised a traxler counter attack and scored the victory in 17 moves which is a major improvement considering the last time I played it I won in 26 moves

no, it’s to become immortal by playing a brilliancy.

No, it's to win. Chess, played perfectly, like Alphazero vs Alphazero is a draw by force. Its just equal. However, the fun in chess comes in psychology. Tal knew this, and became World champ with it. However, aggressive play is much harder to retain than defensive play, as draws become more and more abundant. The reason chess is played is to win. Chess would be dead if the goal was to draw

@llama dude be talking sense braw... Part from the bit about dumb people being high rated. Dumb people don't get high rated. Part from Reality tv and US President. Pragmatic people might be more accurate... those who don't mind slow, boring game, and don't care about fun.

So this is why patzers play cheap Gambits that YouTube "guarantees" quick wins with: It's because they all think they're Mickel Tal. LOL.

Paul Morphy was notorious for his use of gambits Richard Hunter. He coined the golden rules which rapidly accelerated game play understanding. It’s your own fault for not studying is the hard truth. Go invest some hard time into learning your history instead of crying like a Karen all over the forum. “Real chess” wtf ? Get away from the computer for a few days and save your blood pressure.

Paul Morphy was famous for his attacking positional play. I don't think he was known for "win quick" Gambits. Shocker that you know nothing about Paul Morphy.

I'm not going to play a transphobe. Proud or not.

Hobo_Dawg

Funny how a common enemy can ease tensions

Hobo_Dawg

In this case, the common enemy is people who still the attack helicopter joke is, or was ever funny.

No, Tal used to play slow attacking lines, like the Ruy Lopez. We play cheap gambits cuz they're fun. Obviously, that's a new concept for you. All you care about is drawing. U won't try to win cuz that means taking a risk. U don't want to take the risk cuz ur scared.

Around 1300-1800 learning how to defend against cheap tricks and gambits is a must if you want to improve. It's like the stages of chess improvement: first, learn not to hang pieces. Next, learn to defend against unsound attacks. Then MAYBE your endgame and other studies will pay off...

well said lol

I'm sick of all these  'how to crush lower rated players with XXX gambit' type videos. Is this all people care about, getting a quick win by reciting a few moves by rote? At best, you'll improve your rating for a short while but then get kicked back down when you have to actually play real chess. I don't think we should be encouraging this sort of thing. I really want to yell at my screen when opponents play some stupid gambit that they've been told will let them 'win easy'.

you must be fun at parties. They're perfect for online games!

You're so toxic and salty. Get it over with. I can say for example: "I"m so tired of these stupid italian openings. Their unfair because I don't know how to counter them hmph. And this french opening, I hate it because the person who plays it always wins. This is so unfair. Hmph." You can't just say that you hate one aspect of chess just because it lets your opponent win. And gambits usually involve traps that are useful just in general for chess. To say that "those are stupid" is like saying that I don't like the italian game because I always lose when the opponent plays it. And traps help a player understand more positional situations and how you can have a better position via sacrificing a piece. In every gambit it was partially your own fault for letting your opponent play it. There are lots of ways you could have prevented it. You can't be toxic against another player just because they play a certain opening.
