Another reason the thread was taken down is that the United Kingdom -- where the chess.com lists as its prinicipal place of business (even though its servers are physically located in the United States) -- has quite strict libel and slander laws and the administration may have gotten spooked by a potential lawsuit.
Other popular websites, such as the wicked monolith of Wikipedia (based in St. Petersburg, Florida), are likewise paranoid of such threats. Ever tried posting any reference to a living person on Wikipedia? Unless you what you post is common knowledge or backed up by about 5 reputable sources and a full waiver of liability signed by the subject, not only will the post get removed within seconds, but you will be publicly excoriated and most likely banned.
Dear Chessnut Colleagues,
Six months ago, I started a Public Forum thread entitled "Alleged NM is Outed."
Basically it was a disagreement with a National Master (NM) regarding an opposite color bishop middlgame/endgame position.
My thread got 15,056 views (over 6 months) and 207 comments (in about the first week). But mostly I just got flamed for disagreeing with the NM. His (many) defenders took me to task, vigorously.
Now my thread is no more. It was deleted a couple days ago, a casualty of the site moderators (I believe). Apparently, my thread was naming and shaming, or maybe it wasn't helpful, pleasant, and nice. Whatever.
The lesson here is -- The Nail that Stick Out Gets Hammered Down.
So instead, I'm just reading (and posting) in new threads, such as "The Speakeasy," by @Snakes (and @Bowerick), and trying to contain my belly-laughing.
FYI, my original disagreement with the NM over opposite color bishop endings is still intact, and can be found inside his thread "ICC Follies #11," which has about 6500+ views, currently. Most of the nasty text inside that thread has been edited out. On balance, I got flamed royally in that thread too. Whatever.
So Best Wishes to All, and Happy Forums too. Humor heals, most of the time.
Regards,
Zborg
