@Perfect_Idiot, one of the first few replies was correct: You have to have a title in real life. See here http://www.chess.com/members/titled_players

I would like a title. How about "grand, exalted, all powerful ruler of the universe"? Can I have that one? Wait, damn. That one might be taken already, Ill have to check on that one

MrDamonSmith

No. I've thought about it and you can have that one perfect idiot. GEAPROTU for short. Hows that?

DrFrank124c

I have a title, "Doctor." I have a  Doctor of Divinity degree--honorary--and it only costs me a few dollars on the internet.

I'd like a title, too, but I think I'd do better by paying to name a star.  I'll call it "GM Fingerly".  That way, everyone who visits my star in the future will have warm feelings about me and my unique love of chess.  They will really understand me.

I know. You can have this title Perfect_idiot:

FTOTB

Fearless Troll of the Bridges

MrDamonSmith

Its possible to buy titles on the internet? Hmmm....... business idea. Ok everyone, send me 9.95 and tell me which title you want. Dukes, Knights, Princesses and so forth might cost extra. So order while supplies last.

FN_Perfect_Idiot

Ugh you are ALL missing the point, if you have played MW for example you get prestige titles and clan tags which is similar to what I want.

I want to have some letters in FRONT of my name when I play...I personally like "PM" (Participant Master). So it would be red/blue/green (with maybe an icon) in front of my name PM Perfect_Idiot.

Is this possible somehow?

kco

not possible for a troller.

MrDamonSmith

What is a participant master? I've never heard of that. Is it kind of like participant class F player or class G player maybe?

If you don't have anything useful to say just keep out of it.

MrDamonSmith

He's a master debater and a cunning linguist.

Just a title I invented. I would like to link it to my group Deadly_Assassins if possible. (As in I can award people this title for joining my group)

If its not possible is there a way to submit a feature request?

No, it is not possible. Only those who have titles in real life can get them on Chess.com.

I was serious about this.

Could you clarify yourself? Have you played Miss World, Malawi or Men's Wearhouse? Or just some well known game on the internet, is it?

Chess titles are for real. Just like Dr or MBa. Chess is not a game like any RPG. Didn't know that WoW had a FIDE like organization as well. I know that Dr can be obtained for instance at the MIT. For chess titles do you have to play OTB and get enough ELO.

Then will you have a name starting with red letters and a lifelong free membership. All the rest of us have a common nickname: 'Patzer'. :-) Join the club.

MrDamonSmith

If everyone has easy to get titles they stop having any significance. Its kind of like everyone calling themselves doctor or master of such and such, after a while it has no meaning or elevated standing in society.

I saw one of those too. Damn vandals scratched out the letters, l and e. No respect.

OP...I've wondered about what the title "Esquire" meant so I looked it up. Here's a quote from Wikipedia. It wouldn't require any points. Maybe chess.com could at least create a trophy.

"It is also seen in addressing male children too young to be addressed as "Mister"/"Mr.", such as in an invitation to a formal occasion or in legal documents - to emphasize that the intended addressee or referenced individual is a young gentleman."

Also, you might try checking your genealogy. I did. No help. Just a bunch of farmers not a king in the bunch.

I don't think chess titles can be passed on to off-spring. I'm pretty much against that idea anyway. It's too easy to abuse.

Anyway, good luck with your pursuit of a title.

Don Quixote de la Mancha called himself Knight Errant dubbed by an innkeeper and he thought he was a knight.

So I dub thee "GM Errant de la Chess.com."

Now go forth and beat all those who dare cross your path. When you become a true GM then Chess.com will make GM in red . . . .

"GM Errant de la Chess.com"
