Nice set, how did u acquire them? If you send us the entire provenance we might be able to help you!

Regency style.  Looks like they might be made from horn, so maybe from Vietnam or that region of the world?  They don't look that old.

Not Regency. Regency-inspired, maybe.

Additionally he was 87 and just died. Had this set since his early 20's.

Where did your father get it? Did he travel a lot or go to antique shops or such? Sometimes you can find really great treasures at antique shops for only a few dollars.

I'm sorry about your dad :(

They don't look like ivory to me, but rather like some kind of stone, and the base of the knight seems to be wooden. But i could be wrong.

I dont care about value. In his honor want to know more..can't remember the story. Not wood or stone certainly. Horn or Ivory. Shape must hold a clue. Held in wood box that opens out to form board.

Amyalex, I'm sorry about your father.

Is it possible he picked it up in the service?  If so, where was he stationed?

I don't think it's ivory, which is white/cream not brown.  If you go out on google you can search for simple tests you can perform to determine whether material is horn or ivory.

Can you post a picture of the board/box, maybe that will help.
