why is everybody posting pictures of breakfast foods? I dont get the point.

LavaRook

@kingpiece

haha you seem to be new to chess.com...

WELCOME!!

Well the posting of pancakes, waffles, random food is pretty common on threads  a thread asking some pointless question, a thread which has lost its point, some random troll thread...

You'll see it often don't worry haha lol. Conquistador, our gourmet waiter, really tries to make sure that the people of chess.com satisfy their virtual diet. :P

Dude, the food isn't random; Every morsel in those pictures has deep philosophical meaning. Clearly you haven't been using this site very long either.

LIKE the map :)

At first I though Conquistador's pic was a map of the ancient land bridge between pancakes and waffles.

A Golden Age of peace.

TheGrobe

Do I see "Rum Jug Lake" on that map?  It's what's for breakfast.

Viva Summer Island!

Yeah, what about that Morphy opera box swindle? He only had like a bishop and a rook left while the other side still had that much plus a Queen and a Knight. OBVIOUS LOSS FOR WHITE amirite? But he pulls this dumb move out of his ass and acts like he's won just 'cos he can trick his way into taking their King next move. That's so unrealistic - real life doesn't work that way at all!

your segue is almost as bad as miss hathaway's.

Even if I couldn't see your name there, i could guess who would post that kind of comment.

chess.com can not practically implement all the laws of chess (see diagram below, software probably can not see this is a draw), but they're doing good job in trying to implement most of it.

There is no problem with the position Dragec gave. If one of the players refuses to agree a draw, the other one simply claims one later according to the 50 move rule or the threefold repetition rule.

I'm still trying to figure out whether that's a compliment or an insult...

Ditto on the comment about perpetual checks.  If you don't have issues about missing a tactical shot and letting your opponent take advantage of that and deck you, why is he suddenly an idiot for taking advantage of your exposed king?

Legal moves are legal moves.

I highly doubt they are just trying to annoy you ... if you signed up for a blitz/bullet game or anything with a clock,  chances are that this would be one way to flag you.

I agree

God, can someone tell me how to delete this tiresome thread...la..de...lol

So I've already encountered one of these a-holes. What happens is that at end game they find it amusing to check you with their queen, and you have no defenses so you move out of the way, and they then check you again. You move back. They check you... etc etc and they do this forever. They know they can't check mate you and they are losing, but they keep doing this to annoy you.

Are there some rules against this? e.g if they do this enough they auto-lose or something?

He's not "losing" the game, because you can't win the game.  You can't win because he can continue to check you.  In your own words "you have no defense".

You're complaining that they won't just give up, maybe sacrifice their queen, and make it easy for you to win.

And according to you, trying to get a draw instead of just letting you win makes them A-holes,

Your rating is under 1250.  You are a newbie who has no clue and would rather cuss at your opponent than learn the game.  You don't know the rules of the game, but you'll scream and kick and cry like a baby because "THEY WON'T LET ME WIN!".

Good luck with that.

draconlord

The one thing I'm annoyed at is when you have 10 seconds or so on the clock, and you have an obvious mating net, but your opponent just makes unwise checks to win on time. Very Annoying.

Guy! Guys! Guys! I think its safe to say the OP gets it by now! I'm guessing that's why he's no longer paying attention to this thread. Anyway, I spoke to him a couple minutes ago personally and he told me to tell you all, "I still think perpetual check really stinks but after all you guys posted like 6 pages of comments about it I understand it's just a part of the game and I realize now that I am a total idiot"

More importantly:
