If You Could Go to Dinner with Any Chess Player, Who'd You Pick?

GM Anna Muzychuk. If she's single and is not in a committed romantic relationship.

FM Regina Prokorna, if she's single and is not in a committed romantic relationship.

GM Hou Yifan, if she's single and is not in a committed romantic relationship.

.....ahh, I'm too old for her though......in terms of just a generation gap.....

It seems that quite a few chess players have trouble forming real-life relationships with the opposite sex.

I'd pick someone who has an endless supply of stories and amusing anecdotes.

Vlastimil Hort then.

It would be tough to go to dinner with a chess great without being annoying and showering them with questions. So I think if I was to choose anyone, I think Yasser Seirawan. Seems like a real nice guy that you could have a pretty cool, non chess related discussion with. I really love chess, but I've been playing guitar almost my entire life. If I could choose anyone I could have dinner with, anyone at all, it would be Eric Clapton.

1. Andrew Martin

The FIDE now, and the future. Clarify some lines on the Panov Variation (ABC of the Caro-Kann Chapter 20-22).

2. Yuri Averbakh

On the CCCP (then) and the Russian (now). And highlights from Vol.4 of his Comprehensive Ending book.

3. Boris Spassky

His games, and his impressions, thoughts & conversations with RJF.

I would like to have had dinner with George Koltanowski. I met him in Lincoln NE where he was running a tournament. Edmar Mednis and Victor Pupols were there - big event for Nebraska!

George autographed my copy of The Colle System. It still has a special nice place in the halls of my chess memories.  He was a real gentleman. Love to play over his games.

On second thought though I would like to dine with Roman Dzindzidashvili. Really impressed by his videos on chess openings. He seems like a really nice man. Unless you are playing chess with him.

Maybe batgirl.  She gets that life is about people. We would probably be friends.

NM Bramblyspam: Why? Are you just assuming a conclusion that you want to be True, but it isn't? Still waitin' to hear which Chess player you'd pick to have dinner with.....

"Seems" like you're angry and want to take it out on some innocent poster who stayed on topic with this comment page.....

"....trouble forming real life relationships with the opposite sex"?....."relationships"? Does that involve answering a topic question about which player you would pick to go to "dinner" with?.....

Seems that a particular Chess player needs control over others who just want to have a Good discussion.......and that Chess player seems to think that he/she knows everything about all Chess players & their personal lives......that player probably uses his/her powerful powers of clairvoyance to earn a NM title.......seems that......lol....

Heh.

1. I posted my choice long ago. Look back if you're interested.
2. I'm not angry, I'm amused!
3. I'm bowing out of this thread, as I have no interest in getting sucked into flame wars.

Peace and happiness unto all, whatever your dinner companion situation may be. wink.png

Peter Svidler.

Pepe Cuenca, Yasser Seirawan, and Timur Gareyev among my other choices.

Criteria: very interesting people, lots of chess stories, GM strength, and wouldn't shy away from conversation. My favorite super-GMs nowadays like Fabi and MVL might not be as open, and Naka can be rude.

aw shucks.

Yasser Serawan seems like the most personable and amusing GM........ and a heckuva player. I read he took up chess at the senescent age of 12 and was WA state junio? champ at 13...... at around 19 or 20 he was picked by Korchnoi to be among his trainers ------- in a lecture on youtube, Seirawan states he didn't know that that was a PAID position!

LAST on my list would be RJF, my idol. I really DON'T NEED to hear about conspiraices and self hatred of Jews....... When I want a good memory of RJF, I youtube the Dick Cavett interview. He (RJF) was at his best: relaxed, confident, jovial.... so sad what happened to him.

I'd pick up Houdini or Stockfish. The restaurant bill will be cheapwink.png
