Some people like to know a little more about a person when they talk to them, so it wasn't quite random. Or, since you mentioned an ex, it could cause people to be curious about the ex, and if s/he knows your ex. So, they could've checked to see if your ex's name is on your profile.
Of course, nobody HAS to read someone's profile, just like nobody HAS to put up a profile.
And isn't it more likely that a person that doesn't know you would want to look at your profile than someone who already knows you? After all, if someone knows you, there probably isn't much more in your profile that the other person doesn't know.
2nd wish: never posting in the thread
3rd wish: never putting name in profile
4th wish: why do people have to be so nosey

If my wish somehow ceased to work anymore, I would then wish for a wish that never ended so that I could still have my never ending pack of ciggies, if they could possibly be lit and ready to go as soon as I grabbed one outta the pack, then that would be a dream of all dreams...wow!
