If you won the lottery, how would you improve?

If you won the lottery and had almost unlimited money, how would you try to get better at chess? I think the first thing is finding the best coach. But how do you find the best of the best? Would you hire a team of seconds to study opening lines for you? Would you travel to all of the top tournaments and play against the best players? Having money should be some kind of advantage, but how would you make the most of that advantage?

I would forget about chess and improve my life.

I would hire a good coach. I don't think hiring a team to do opening research has any point to it unless you are playing a world class tournament. But yes, taking lessons from a top coach was the first thing that came to mind. I really wouldn't worry about finding the "best of the best". I would start with someone good and learn more about the upper tiers of the chess world. Once you understand more about your own style, then you could get a different or better coach.

I might try playing in chess tounaments held at hotels and stayin in the hotel that hosts a tournament is almost an unfair advantage.

It is super groovy since you can have a little 30 minute nap after your game and then go play bughouse chess.

Ooh that sounds like fun.

Since you wouldn't have to work, just means you have more time to spend on your hobbies.

at the time I was addicted to chess. I would probably have become a lower rated full time chess player and have a coach.

now I would still play chess but more casual and enjoy life.

yes I would spend more time on my hobbies chess and running but I would invest in more education so that if the money ran out I would still be qualified for a job. as a rich student I would have plenty time to travel and I wouldn't have to live and eat like a poor student.  #DREAMING

I wouldn't....I'd buy a hellacool sailboat, get off this island, and probably end up wallowing in self-destructive luxury.

(hmmm....yeah, that's what I'd do !)

Pay Carlsen to prepare me orange juice during tournaments, hire Aronian to get his inseparable girlfriend at the sime time, buy some of Kramnik's height (I hate being Short), and try in every possible way to find Ivanchuk and offer him a drink.

I would also give $1 to Kasparov if he promised to tell me what's he doing on the Bilderberg list.

I'd pay Carlsen to take a dive.

I would buy chess.com. Then I would hire a Troll Patrol. This team would have a full-time job of identifying trolls and people who get off on belittling others online. I would then hire a PI service to find out where these people lived, who act so mighty hiding behind a keyboard. I won't go into the rest. :-)

Been thinking about this for a while?

People who pissed me off in the past would disappear without a trace....

If I won the lottery, 2 things would likely happen:

1)I'd never play chess again

2)I'd be dead within 6 months

I would buy a bunch of Capablanca Chess sets and then start hosting loads of tournaments.  With enough money, I could make it even more popular than chess itself!

What is a Capablanca chess set? Does it have special powers or something?

Why no, whatever gave you that idea?

On 2nd thought if I'm being honest, this is me too.

Me too, not because I would party too wild but because with my luck I would probably be 99 years old and not being able to lift my arms to celebrate.
