if you've been playing for 10 years with 10 thousand games and still 400 im sorry you may not be the smartest person

There's just some things that you just can't disagree with. : )))

In fact, intelligence is a very complicated thing, involving a huge neural network in brain. At intermediate level,Chess is just a particular skill to recognize patterns, some not complicated calculations, attention and memory. For example, I am PhD in physics and I can calculate quite decent number of moves. However, my problem is that every time I overcomplicate the positions, it takes too much time and I make a move that doesnt make sense, since I just need to move. Moreover, it usually turns out to be a blunder. Also,I have a lot of scientific colleagues who are struggling in chess. In general, I would say that top national players are smarter because at that level the thinking is really DEEP , but up to like 2000 or so it is just a game

baronet90210: You find it interesting that in the 1920s a team on cognitive scientist ran a series of tests on the French national chess team (including Alekhine and Marcel Duchamp) and found that the only areas where they all scored in the top 1% were visual--the ability to remember something (such as chess positions) they had seen before, and the ability to bring up into their "mind's eye" and reproduce exactly a number of changes in pictures and diagrams they were shown. Obviously this would help solve your calculation difficulties. Their IQs were average or above but not genius level.
