I’m Quitting Chess

I am writing this because I am finally done. I have been playing chess ever since I was 5 years old starting out with my dad, I played to get better than him and my mom, then eventually my grandfather, then I joined up online. I had fun here but I am not as good online as I am in person, for some weird reason I cannot really see everything that can happen on flat boards and I need a real one in front of me to see all the cells and natural structure of the board. But I eventually got better and beat my mom, dad, and grandfather, and I got up to 1032 elo on my old account. But then I got back from the Air Force Fire Academy and decided that I wanted to play again. I actually delved into theory and advanced topics instead of just doing my own thing. I got better for a little bit, and then I started getting worse. So I tried practicing more and studying up more, and I still got worse. I figured maybe it was chess fatigue so I took a break for a week and a half and I still got worse. My blitz elo wasn’t that high to begin with because due to the shutdown I had to get a job at the gas station and I made the mistake of playing on the job. But then I lost 12 games in a row so I decided to tank it to 100 out of anger. Then trying to get back up, I lost games to 100 elo and 200 elo players having been 500, and then when I was about to get back up to 800 in rapid, I lost game after game after game, and now I’m 681. I do believe in Fischer’s perspective of chess, but I never took the route of ignoring openings, I always understood the importance of the pieces dynamics, yet not matter how much I tried, I still lost. I hate this game, everything else that I have pushed for I have been able to accomplish, I had an easier time graduating military basic than getting better. So I’m quitting, the opponents aren’t nice (I have crashed out myself before in the chat, but never have I been an jerk) the doctrine is flawed and cramps creativity, but it requires penitent devotion to be anything, and now winning and increasing my skill through the way too few and far victories are nothing but stale. Chess is no longer fun, it killed itself or maybe I developed a fatal flaw I can’t fix, but who would want to play a game that after giving their time to it, a love for one of the most unique games, and it did nothing but let me down?

Stop playing blitz, I fell into this trap as well. There are far too many 1,000 elo players playing at 1500 level skill and there's a issue many won't admit. The soft engine use, one or two brilliant moves coupled with the few slips a person naturally makes and you lose. The point being the soft engine use is very wide spread in online chess. I can't maintain 1,000 blitz, but regularly hold around 1400 rapid.. Maybe its a time issue? I know I simply can't move fast enough to keep up, so blitz is now just for fun, no seriousness or care..

Something I suggest to people who burn out on chess is to take a break from playing. However, you may be able to revive your love of the game by going through games of old masters. Get a book of games by Capablanca, Fischer, Bronsteon, or some other favorite. Get a book about one of the great tournaments of the past.

You can appreciate the mastery of their play and learn a bit, without even making an effort to „study,”

Why are you always pointing out how good you are at chess? Your not even trying to offer any real advice, but always making reference to how good you are? You said if you had played since you were a kid you'd be a GM, but guess what your not and your also not anything outside of a incredible online player here with no Fide titles, no GM, im, master or otherwise. If your, so great why don't you have a OTB title? Seems strange somehow. Your a troll...

not everyone would. Heck, I've probably been playing since I was 5, but I am nowhere near being GM. I never will be. Not everyone is that caliber of player.
