Hello guys,

Recently I've been having a really frustrating problem. I'm winning for no apparent reason. I had ~1400 rating on blitz (5 min) games and I started winning. Now I'm 1550. It seems like all my opponents play mistakes and making stupid blunders. Even if I have a worse position often they just blunder. How come did I came from 1400 all the way up to 1550? I need some help...

I've got this nifty new fishing lure you can use on your next troll across the lake... Catches suckers every time.

Well, you never win for no reason. The problem is you are getting too good. I bet you've been sneaking in some TT excercises when you thought no-one was looking. Cut that out, and you'll soon be back to 1400, or even lower.

pls go through my online games and suggest if I deserve to be be there on such a higher rating of 1600+???????????????????

Evidently you're concentrating way too hard on your games.  Concentration can ruin your ability to lose games in style.  Sac something if things are getting too boring. Hand-wave instead of concretely calculating something, find your inner-Tal (assuming your Tal is drunk off his ass and snorting coke while playing blindfolded)... or better yet, spend more time in this forums than actually playing (it works wonders for me!).

If all else fails, there might be some training, some camp to help with the whole concentration thing ... I wonder?

Sir/Madam,

Thanking you from my bottom of the heart for taking out your valuable time to answering my petty question although it doubted me a lot. I am not considering me even as good as intermidiate in this field. And due to my little knowladge I wish I have to concentrate hard not to commit any silly mistake to keep me alive in every game. Because of my limitation of knowladge I understand it is literally impossible for me to come back into the game after commiting such mistake.And above all I want to improve. So sir/Madam, eagerly waiting for a suggetion from a genuinly high rated player like you.

Best regards

Terrahammer: "It seems like all my opponents play mistakes and making stupid blunders. Even if I have a worse position often they just blunder."

Wait a minute, Magnus Carlsen also has this problem!!

"How come did I came from 2750 all the way up to 2870"?

It must be Terrahammer that you are pushing your opponents too hard, forcing them to make errors....

Your opponents are rated way lower then you. Ofcourse they make mistakes relative to you.

Set the ratingwindow of your seeks to -50 +500 or something. That way competition will go up as you improve, you learn more from playing stronger opponents and subsequently you should have higher quality games (and losses) and improve even more.

Dear RustInTime,

I presume Above advices are made for me. I will definately adhere to your priceless comment by every possible way. At the same time I have a huge fear of loosing to a superior player not even giving him a due fight. And thats way I can loose whatever moral I gathered.Typical Indian attitude. Pls suggest

Regards

@Yehudit

Haha he made a topic like mine, how original.

@rooperi

Thanks for your tips. Its true I have been practising tactics too much. I keep trying to create tactics and look for combinations in real games. Perhaps I should focus more on the current position than calculation.

subhendumaity

It seems that we have the same problem. How do you cope with so much wins?

Shivsky

Thank you so much for the tips. Concentration is indeed an important aspect. I try to sac carelessly, I really do, but most of the times these just happen to be great moves! Or my opponent just misses my hanging piece... I guess I am just unlucky. I thank this forum for making me help improve my chess games. It is nice to have people to vent these worries.

LongIslandMark

Possibly. There are some strange people on the internet, thats for sure. Alright who wants to have a game with me without barking dogs/kids?

forrie

Thank you for the advice, but I doubt it'll work. At this rating, when I play all passively and such, enemies are taunted in a futile attack.

RustInTime

I set up my rating level -150 // +150. Apparantly this makes me attract lower rated players more, probably because many set up their search range as you suggested. But I started noticing this: Higher rated people generally go for more complicated positions, which result in higher chances of making crucial mistakes. See for example my last game. I don't hope this will result in even more wins...

@Subhendumaity
No need to fear anyone, just look at the position and play good moves. But not like TeraHammer because that's frustrating.
What's a due fight? If you lose by a cheapo or blunder..sucks but not likely to fall for that same cheapo again in the near future.>improvement made.
Ah well Dutch attitude is to in our bloated heads feel vastly superior to our stronger opponent (and to the game of chess itself, and to the universe) for all sorts of unjust reasons anyway even if we lose. That's not helpful either. (Btw. not to gloat but I have a nice shiny Indian Chopra chess Reykjavik replica set.)

@TeraHammer
No problem, just keep raising the Elo until you are surrounded just by players that are all winning for no apparent reason. While the positions will get so complex random resigns against you will make for the biggest part of your online chess experience but atleast they'll be able to sympathise. Many laughs will be had.
Ik heb geen hond/kinderen. Tuurlijk, die hebben elkaar na een paar dagen opgegeten tragisch was dat. Maar kan wel rustig schaken nu dus ik zeg kom dan jongeh.

Dear Stan,

Its been my absolute previlege to went through your precious comments headed me. Apert from all I am having some reservation about your of comment on  Dutch attitude. In my childhood when I was in class 2 standard there was a topic of Hunce who at the very little age had the courage of keeping his hand on a cracked wall which prevent water  coming  from sea. And frankly speaking its become a influencing part of my development. After India Holland is my next soccer loving country because of your fighting spirit.

Secondly I am not at all good in english. So your last sentence "Btw. not to gloat..........." I could not understand.  Will you pls elaborate?

Thanks and much love

Well to add a little bit of seriousness in this thread: I find it a shame that most of my wins are because of blunders, and only Soooooooooooooometimes because I make a nice combomove where Im outsmarting my opponent.
