I'd say that most open sections in reasonably large tournaments are FIDE rated, and even some U2300/U2400 sections in my experience.
Unfortunately, although there are small invitational tournaments that give FIDE ratings, these are.. invitation only. So I'd be on the lookout for tournament open sections.

Does anyone have any tips on how to improve my FIDE rating? Like if you wanted a FIDE rating of 2200+ in Canada or the USA, where are some affordable tournaments to go to?
