Is 2D hurting our OTB ability?

I just played on this site for a year...a lot of games. A few weeks ago I went to an OTB tournament. OMG, I knocked the pieces over so many times...it was like I was playing with mittens on or something. It took about 10 games for me to adjust to "3D"....or what some might call reality.
Believe i must agree with ELI. I've found since playing only 2D this year it makes it harder for me to go back to OTB for blitz.
When I first started online corr games, I found it difficult to see B-N5 moves for some reason and would overlook them, tho I never would on a real board. It may work both ways>?
So I like ELI's idea of keeping some play of both ways going if possible. Otherwise, I don't think it ruins your game permanently, but may make it worse for awhile, requiring a readjustment period.
It doesnt bother me at all,
im better in OTB then online chess (correspondent)
because im more into the game but in online chess like you forget the plans and position if you have too many games
but overall the 2D thing isnt affecting me
I don't think it makes too much of a difference. If you're a premium member, you get 3D boards, though!
If you can play even half a game blindfolded, then this wouldn't affect you.
As long as you play SOME OTB then I think it doesn't make a difference. If you play 100% online, 2d will throw you off your game.
For a while I was playing online heavily, with little real life chess experience. When joined USCF I had to adapt to the physical pieces. So for the first couple months I would actually stick my head directly over the board and stare down, in a subconscious attempt to emulate the computer screens presentation. Eventually it wore off and I can now alternate between formats without problem.
In a nutshell, playing 2d chess will improve your complete chess ability as long as it is supplemented with and occasional OTB game.
