Yes its fair to assume that matches involving good players should'nt ever end in actual checkmate, unless it's a blitz game where time scrambling sometiems leads to tactical oversight and eventual checkmate. If the check mate is unavoidable the lossing player can resign and avoid being checkmated for the next move.
Is actually getting to a mate a sign of weakness?
I say never resign unless it it impossible for the other person to blunder and loose a piece/game.
People are human after all and do make mistakes no matter what the situation is. Someone might make a blunder in the end game enabling a draw or even a win.

Correct, good players know to resign when they have a hopeless position. But replace 'shouldn't ever' with 'rarely' for a truer picture. Sometimes even masters overlook mate, or they play on out of contempt for their opponent, or as a courtesy.

when somone sacs any piece much less a queen I wouldn't make a single motion to move until I really thought I had a handle on why he did it. Perhaps he thought he knew why but was wrong...who knows.
As for winning off of a blunder at the end, yeah I guess that does happen from time to time but if you all hopelessly behind I think the courteous thing to do is resign. I don't like winning that way either. Its kinda like winning due to time. It just feels kinda cheap but a win is a win I suppose.
I have a game going on right now that I started when I was new to this site so I didn't understand the time aspect of this site and I started a game for 6 days per unknowingly. I have had this guy hopelessly defeated for weeks now but he waits until the last possible hour to make a move and the ending could take weeks or months bc of this. He is online every day too but refuses to move. He's just being so petty that and childish that its unbelievable. I have asked him nicely and everything but he won't move. Check out my current game with HCT and tell me what you think about him dragging it out on purpose.
So I was thinking, Is it fair to assume that matches involving good players shouldn't ever end in an actual checkmate situation? I mean if you are good you would certainly see mate if it were around the corner or even beforehand and resign no?
