Is monopoly a sport?

The above scenario does not equate even closely to the previously claimed 3 tournament games of 6 hours duration each day("cogwheel"). This is stretching credibility beyond breaking point.

Why should GM Gulko's view of what is a sport have more validity simply because he is an expert chess payer? Playing 8 tough games in 4 days may be mentally tiring and draining, but it is most certainly not physically demanding.

lol, says the 1200 who has probably never played in the sort of event he described. Please, boost your rating to 1800 and go to a 2 day tournament with 3 6 hour games a day and see if you're not physically exhausted.

And like Boris Gulko has, in his life, ever played a serious sport?

Gulko was, and is, a pretty serious snow boarder.

Oh yeah, and anyone who insists chess is a sport is a weenie who probably can't throw a ball.

Trust me on this, pallies...spare yourselves from looking even more dorkish than you generally do and DON'T tell the straights you think chess is a sport. That will only confirm their already-low estimation of your place on the cool scale. Really...it's a cringe-inducer, just imagining some of you loudly bellowing that chess is a sport in a bar, or anywhere that normal people congregate...

Ok, "Potato."  As far as normal people congregating...that would be where people who name themselves after stem tubers are not.

Trying too hard.

Grindie! That's so...BRIEF.  There is power in brevity, sometimes.

Not this time. Try harder.

It's not a challenge.  It's advice.  Learn from it or don't.  Bye.

Adios, grindhouse. Advice found lacking, given context. Ignored.

I reckon the horse died quite a while ago on this topic. Why don't we stop flogging it?

Karpov have somehow predicted the coming of chess boxing. Chess boxing is clearly a sport.

Idiots think chess is not a sport, did not bother reading this article nor researching. This proves all wrong thinking chess is not a sport.

noun: sport; plural noun: sports
1.
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

And therefore, chess is not a sport.  There is no physical exertion --- your ass is getting bigger due to sitting around a long time with no physical exertion.

This says it, mostly. This subject has been raised repeatedly in these forums and argued out ad nauseam. It is difficult to avoid the suspicion that it is yet another example (women in chess, chess and IQ, etc.) of a subject being deliberately raised in order to cause argument, bitterness and resentment. Some people have a weird notion of entertainment.

If you removed the players arms, they would still move the pieces with their mouths.

Whoever thought chess was played with the bum ?

Chess makes bums bigger ? Haven't heard of that one.

Mental sport may be?
