Hatyai means 'Big Beach'. So it is possible there is a beach called hatyai.

I know Kho Pangan. One of my favorite places to go.

Open invite to anyone finding themselves in Thailand: Beer and chess. I have not had a decent OTB game in about 8 years.

i got it now - have been often at your location. there are some good players living in bangkok - in the south i sometimes found some tourists who played chess with me but most of my time i was too busy for chess. do you are buddhism or moslem? or is it too private?

Funny. I'm agnostic. Laughing

I'm not Thai. I'm an expat.

If you make it this way again, remember me.

The general rule: If you can play it while drinking beer, it's not a sport.

Avatar of Zarwan

I guess that means the rise of beer lead to the fall of sport. There's no sport left! D:

Chess is a game. Sports are physical. People push all sorts of things for political reasons and the fact that it is recognised as a sport doesn't mean it is a sport. All we have are people who don't understand language. I can remember not so long ago when people were pushing for it to be recognised as a sport. These idiots also think darts, snooker and snakes and ladders are all sports.

Avatar of Optimissed

P.S. if it's a "mind sport" then so is doing exams or learning the entire contents of a dictionary.

"Ah, but a chess is a mind sport because it's a game and doing exams isn't a game."

"Oh, isn't it? Who are you to tell me doing exams isn't a sport? Maybe you think it isn't a sport if it isn't recognised as a sport?"

OK, let's get watercolour painting recognised as a sport. It should be easy because there's a good precedent in chess .......

"Don't be silly."

"I'm not being silly, you are".

"You're mad."

"No, you are for taking it so seriously."

etc

All arguments involve differences of opinion but not all opinions are sensible.

True. It also helps if you speak English like a native, since we're arguing in English.
