Must you WIN?

I've seen people in bad health play football. They didn't win. What does your health have to do with participating.

Candidates to be doctors and lawyers must take medical boards and bar exams that are long and grueling.

Chess tournalments are also grueling. Does it help greatly to be in good physical shape and young? Absolutely. Are these things tests of endurance, and is there a mind-body connection? Certainly.

You guys can argue this all you want, but you will never change my mind; butterscotch IS the best ice cream topping.

I put chess in the same category as dart, billiard/pool and...golf!

Yes ... more dairy and more sugar is always a good way to improve dairy and sugar.

Unfortunately most commercial butterscotch these days have very little if any dairy.

And even less scotch.

Admittedly I don't play golf. I must have been thinking of that film Happy Gilmore.

Mostly corn syrup I imagine.

Lately I find a fondness for vanilla ice cream with Chambord.

Simple, effective.

16.5% alcohol - Must melt the ice cream before you can even eat it.

Good grief! Chess players do not recognize the authority of the International Olympic Committee.

Now that's liberation for you!

NO its not a sport by any normal definition

Ah, there's always a catch.

I was trying to go to chess.com on a library computer, and the firewall listed it as "game".  But there was a link to change the classification, and under "sport", chess was specifically listed, so I requested a change in classification.

Chess is considered a sport by schools, such as HS and universities, where the chess club plays intermural trournaments just as any other sport.

I believe chess is a sport, only because I define sport by competition and not athletics.

Poker is a competition.

Poker is a competition.

Which is why I'd consider Poker a sport.  Someone who plays poker would be a sportsman, no?

I have no idea. When I hear the word 'sportsman', I think of hunters.

So, in essence, there are no games. Since all games have a competition component to them.

With the excption perhaps of pocket pool.Laughing
