Chess is digital because moves are made in discrete steps. If it was analog you could move your pieces 1/10th of a square, or 1/1000 of a square, or anything above and between.

Is Chess analog or digital? I think that playing Chess is analog process whereas producing that game or analyzing it is an digital process. The GM's do a great job in converting analog games to digital games, with a high sampling rate as stated by Nyquist theorem ;)
It is a subject of debate whether analog game(human played) is superior to digital game(engine played) or vice versa. The question is highly dependent on the quality of the players (humans or computers) under review, and other factors which are not necessarily related to chess game. Arguments for humans include absence of fundamental error mechnisms(intuition) which are present in computers, including aliasing, quantization noise, and the absolute limitation of dynamic range. Advocates of digital(computers) point to the high levels of performance possible with computers, including excellent linearity in opening games and low levels of noise and distortion in the middle games.
I want to know is Chess analog or digital? Is Life analog or digital? (I heard some spiritual speker said we die at every heart beat and born at the next;) Is this universe analog or digital? Are we losing information in between the sampling bits?
