No. Unfortunately, the game of chess is differently played on a whole new level. Poker involves bluffing in expressions and involves little strategy and more on luck. On the other hand, chess is a strategically played game and requires planning and "battle strategy." It might help just a little, but not enough to help as much as I believe you are trying to find.
is chess similar to pokers?

Poker involves a lot of strategy. The only people who think poker is based mostly on luck are people who don't play poker.
There's a lot more skill in poker, especially Texas Hold'em. Chess tournaments are a crapshoot compared to poker tournaments.
Poker is a game of skill. Online poker is absolutely rigged. Anyone who says otherwise is sponsored by the company, or waiting to be fleeced....

you are so wrong- there is a lot of skill in poker and being good at math help you with all the odds that you have to figure with your hand.
I think "mathematical depth" refers to complexity in terms of number of possible combinations, not being good at math. Although, perhaps this is also not quite true -- there are 52! (52-factorial) possible ways a deck of cards can be shuffled -- http://czep.net/weblog/52cards.html .
Still, there is a difference where in chess you have complete control over what move you make whereas in poker all the strategy in the world sometimes can't necessarily give you a better hand than the other player. But I would say the fact that certain players win more than others, and continue to do so, seems to prove that the chance involved only plays a small part in determining success.
There's some skill in poker in the long run, but it's mostly about luck of what cards are dealt to you and to your opponents. There's not much you can do if you're consistently given worse hands than your opponents, and even bluffs will eventually be called.
Chess is basically a 100% strategical/tactical game where there's no luck involved.
So, no, they aren't simillar at all.
wondering. Will chess skill help you as a new poker player or vice versa?
