as soon as you force people to play for a huge number of hands, poker turns into a pure skill game too.

laws of numbers.

????????????????????????? NO, i dont agree, poker is about 50 % skill. Only between players with exaclty same level and experience it could be randomness 90%

blackrabbitto

WoW is not 100%; what about the procs (programmed occurences)?

Poker is just as skill based because if your poker face is good enough you can win a hand with King Duece off-suit post flop (one heckofa feeling)

Just as much skill-based? We're talking about 100% skill, not 90% luck and 10% skill. Anyone can win a few hands against the top poker players, I'd like to see if you can apply that to chess.

Anyway, no, it's not the only game.

Ben_Dubuque

Dude poker has been proven to be a game of skill and chess has plenty of luck....I mean does your opponent like open or closed positions does he blunder piddly crap like that

chessbond001

no game can ever be a 100% skill as all games have the element of luck in it.IMHO

Fairy_Princess

Poker is virtually 100% luck (over the long run) against players of the same skill level, and quickly regresses towards pure skill (again, over the long run) as skill differentials increase.

But it never becomes pure skill over the course of a hand, a night of poker, or even a tournament.  The sample sizes are just way too small relative the number of outcomes.  That's why we've seen some pretty bad players make some pretty deep runs in some pretty major tournaments, and why we've seen some real legends of the game continually disappoint in the same situations.  A lifetime of WSOP main events isn't long enough to smooth out the variance curve -- there just aren't enough hands played.  And all the skill in the world isn't going to turn that K2o into a winner if your opponent flops the nuts.

DrCheckevertim

Chess isn't 100% skill, probably nothing is.

Also, poker being a high-skill game is laughable. There's way more luck in poker than chess.

Fairy_Princess

If poker were pure skill, there'd be no money in it, as the fish would stop swimming with the sharks.

NO, think about poker online..., and of course u can't always win with rubbish even if its k-2 or 7-2 off. , and major part of poker players dont care about face nor acting. Usually the important is how much they bet and if your move is going to be profitable in long term according to probability odds.
