Is Hans Niemann (aka The Niemannmeister) playing in both the U.S. Championship AND the World Cup?

He's listed as a player in the 2025 U.S. championship, I think being played Oct 12 - 25 but the World Cup which starts on Oct 30 has a confusing reference to Hans participation & mentioned the U.S. championship. Anyone know?

The confusion is from him being listed as a player in the World Cup at #13 in the seeding to be paired. They haven't done the pairings yet but they've listed all the participants.

Here are all the players supposedly playing. Just click on participants.

What's the buzz about Niemann,again?

Ok, I read the fide explanation again. It SOUNDS like Sandirov is taking Niemanns spot BECAUSE Niemann is playing in the U.S. championship. But that event is over 5 or 6 days before the World Cup even starts.

Also the World Cup notes say Hans is playing in the U.S. championship BECAUSE Dominguez dropped out. So that's the ONLY reason Hans gets to play??

He didn't do something else, did he?

It would be all over the news if Hans qualified for the candidates by finishing in the top 3 at the world cup. But that's gonna be a crazy steep mountain to climb. I think he'd have to win 6 matches.

Now he's listed at #10. Googles AI is now saying he IS playing in the World Cup. So he'll have the U.S. Championship right before the World Cup with about 4 days rest in between.
