Is he too young?
I'm trying to get my 11 month old son playing chess. At 5 months I taught him how to set the board up. Now i've got him playing at an estimated 1300 standard. Whats the norm for this age bracket?
Making noises and puking.
It's fairly clear that he's no prodigy, but he may be a late bloomer still capable of reachin IM level in early adulthood.

When do the prodigies learn to set up the board?
Usually at that age you're doing good to keep them from swallowing the pieces.
I feel like such a failure since my 2-year-old son doesn't even know how the pieces move yet. Must put more pressure on him to succeed and find him a chess coach. If he's not a GM by age 5 then I will have failed to be able to live vicariously through him.
No such as too young, well your son. Um, I don't think he's ready for chess yet, well you should talk about this with your wife or a fmaily member. ;D
Does your son understands how to play it, don't force him. I learned how to aply chess in 4th grade and joiend the club. xD
