Is it worth trying to discuss Chess on here anymore?

Those who follow me on this site understand my passion for our sport. 

They understand how much I love the game of Chess. Furthermore due to my curiosity, and yearn for intellectual Chess discussion I've become known as a student of the game around here. Serious members know when I have posted a thread that's it's time to put their Chess caps on because it's time for a riveting Chess debate. 

However, in recent times I have become quite annoyed with the lack of respect in the forums. A new band of internet comedians, or "trolls" as they prefer to be called have made it their sole duty to derail, disrespect, and practice their frivolous behaviour in my threads. 

For this reason, I feel that the serious participants in our community cannot share their views freely in the forums. The Chess.com forums should be respected as a great Chessatorium, where chess knowledge is shared, discussed, and appreciated. It should not be a platform for the infamous troll. 

Has anybody else had problems with these internet dwelling bullies?

The main forum is not that bad, the one that really sucks is the off topic section.

Extremely retarded threads. The weirdos there do not even have any creativity, they just create the same thread over and over again. 

Most trolling doesn't take place in actual serious opening threads.

Those are usually derailed by non-relevant opening advice: such as a question about a line in the French and some dingbat starts posting that it's better to play the Sicilian or Scandinavian...

The off-topic section is poison.

So what do we do with trolls?

Those counting threads are probably the stupidest things I have ever seen in my life. 

If I ever post anything in off topic, it will be a math proof that I can't figure out that's due for HW, and I don't want my professor to see I've asked it on mathstackexchange lol

Luckily, the truth is that any serious chess question from someone who isn't a complete novice, or even a complete novice, can be seriously and well answered here.

For the most part. But sometimes the threads are derailed by the trolls, and the original question never gets answered. 

One could argue that your post seems overly arrogant, self centered, conceited, demeaning to others, and in fact, a poor attempt at trolling itself.

Your comment, "Serious members know when I have posted a thread that's it's time to put their Chess caps on because it's time for a riveting Chess debate" suggests that you are some sort of chess master, guru, or chess God that all should just stop whatever else they are doing and bow to you superiority. Why don't you leave it up to the staff and/or mods to decide what is proper here, better yet...leave it up to the membership, as threads they enjoy will float, those they don't like will sink.

Every member has the right to post here and they don't need your approval.

Get over yourself.

QQ I do believe that 'trolling' is an act of bullying and should be put asunder as soon as possible. However we cannot expect Chess.com to marshall 'troll' police or the like due to personell and time restraints. Such ae endevour would most likely overload the staff and impair their already excellent record. Please chess.com do what you can to stop these fools from making a farce out of a well run site.

That was no attack. He said what he thought - a well reasoned opinion. 

It's fine when they do their trolling in the "off-topic" section. What I have a problem is when they come to the "General Chess Discussion" section, and start derailing sensible chess threads. 

Threads with ridiculous claims made by self-important patzers do tend to be trolled. Just saying.

This isn't a reference to anyone in particular, mind you. 

If you feel offended by what I say here, then I was certainly talking about you, though :-)
