Perhaps the OP should have worded his question differently.Grammatically, the OP is using the verb to tell as an imperative, which can be easily be considered offensive. If the OP had used the verb to suggest or a grammatically similar verb,I don't think that a reasonable person would consider the resulting question offensive: in the context of this thread, to tell someone is a command,to suggest isn't. Then again,a great many forum threads are simply troll threads,so maybe the OP stated exactly what he meant.

Even suggesting it would be a breach of chess etiquette.

It's the opponent's decision whether they want to resign or not. Even when someone is 10 points down, there's a chance their opponent might blunder and they could end up winning or in a draw.

One can care or not, but it is plain rude.

I literally said i don’t do that anymore

i love won positions & simply look at them as 'efficient technique' challenges. 😀

you can say whatever you want lol

It’s not against the rules… but why don’t you just checkmate them if you’re so good?

i just played a game and my opponent made me wait over 8 minutes for his time to run out!!!

I hate jerks who do that, if it happens again report them

If you're cocky I guess saying that might be normal but they said the faster you run the faster you fall. So ye

In the context of an officially rated FIDE tournament, it could be construed as a breach of the rules, not just etiquette.

But what about eye-rolling? Is that acceptable?

Avatar of Hailey

no, it is rude and their choice.

Once I think I was up 10 points and still got checkmated. (Back rank mate) Yes, it was probably because it was my second game and I’m a horrible player, but my point is that random things happen. They might have a plan to win (maybe?) They also might not like to resign and instead finish out their games. (Just a thought)

You could be up 28 points and still draw the game (500 elo btw)

Avatar of piedraven

Yeah, it's rude. You might blunder and I will swoop on you like a missile if you do.

and who could forget queen trades

or promotions into mate in one

if you are suggesting a rule for auto resign after 10 points down (by forcing it) then that makes it no longer chess imo
