Is Jeremy Silman the greatest chess instructor OF ALL TIME?!

It just depends. Different teachers are better for different students. Personally I think Pandolfini is the best. Especially with beginners. It's like the quote, "If you can't explain it simply enough, you don't understand it well enough." And if that is to be believed, then no one understands chess better than Bruce Pandolfini.

I thought silman was ok when I was a beginner but now I have a bit more knowledge of the game I think his books are terrible.

Gunina: agree 100%, although I think his endgame book is quite good

I think Mr. Dan Heisman is a very good teacher for beginners/intermediate and Mark Dvoretsky  for improuved players. However I appreciate also the Silmans's endgame course.

No one is the greatest chess instructor of all time.

That's some capital marketing bullshit people make up to sell themselves.

I think.

"Jeremy Silman's HOW TO REASSESS YOUR CHESS is an example of a good book which explains many important ideas in clear terms." - GM John Nunn (2006)

The best time to use his approach to finding imbalances is while your opponent is using the clock or when you get to a position (after your opening knowledge runs out, your opponent makes an unexpected move, or when 2 or more plans are available) that is unclear.

True, once you reach a high level his books are worth less than if you're a beginner or intermediate player, but he is targeting the masses of chess players who may buy his books rather than the hundreds of experts or masters.

I believe Jeremy Silman's Part 4 of his book on Chess Imbalances, "Psychological Meanderings" is by the far the most valuable piece of information that can be given to players of all levels.
