Is there a name for this in chess?

It's generally agreed castling is advisable for King safety. What about in certain positions where castling is possible but the player intentionally chooses not to, and instead moves the King forward to the next rank. Perhaps because the centre is locked with pawns which the King can safely hide behind which is better than the sides which might be more exposed.

I don't think it has any name but there's plenty of times when keeping the king in the center makes good sense. U might reach the conclusion that the middle game will be brief and not dangerous and having the king centralized would give u a head start for the endgame. As u know a centralized king is good most of the time in the ending.

There are some viable lines that are congruent with this idea. The Steinitz Gambit is one such line but it is challenging to play.

The center being locked is one of the times this works.  Sometimes the opponent ends up making sacrifices to open the center and attack the king.  If the attacked king has enough defensive resources then the sacrifices end up being unsound and the extra material brings in a win.
