Is there a way to report players?

As others have said. That player has 10 minutes, you have 10 minutes. How you use them is up to you. No rules were broken, so no abuse to report...

Yes, it's annoying, and so is loosing to a weaker player. But I'm not putting up a thread asking how to report lower ranked players who beat me wink.png

If you've got sounds on, do something else for 10 minutes and keep an ear out in case they decide to make a move. Works for me, and I quite like the short break, seems to improve my game.

This is the error - "how you use them is up to you".

No.

You play a game - you sign a virtual CONTRACT with your opponent to PLAY A GAME OF CHESS.

Once you play a game of "let's annoy him by waiting for time to run out for spite" this is no longer a game of chess.

This is ABUSE of the trust that your opponent placed in you by agreeing to play with you in the first place.

It's abuse. The time is not YOURS. It's yours only for the PURPOSE of playing a game of chess.

It does make a difference.

I don't know guys, I guess there is a possibility that the opponent is spending ten minutes trying to find a way to stalemate or something, but more often than not it's just one of those players that doesn't handle losing very well. They think the guy on the other end that just out played them is a jerk for doing so, and now he'll have to wait to claim the win. The time is theirs and theirs to use as they see fit, but not to be a sore loser. This happened to me in a rapid game yesterday actually. My opponent played a pretty good game up until he blundered, and then with no escape from mate in one, the guy made me wait 13 minutes to win on time. That had nothing to do with calculating a way out, that was pure vindictiveness.

Sure, OUCH indeed!!

I sometimes catch opponents that way...

Sometimes it boomerangs too - and I have to admit failure. But still - it's really fun when it works and it sure teaches the other guy a lesson.

<Slow_Pawn> - yeah, that's the thing, exactly!

That's what I call doing a von Bardeleben, although it is not proved without any doubt he did it to Steinitz.

I get the hunch that back in Hastings 1895 that's exactly what he did. Couldn't bring himself to smile, shake hands and congratulate his opponent on a superbly played game - one for the ages.

Instead, he entered the history books as the sore loser that he was. Nobody remembers that he was the champion of his country for years and a fine attacking master - they do remember him walking out of the room without resigning!

And defenstrating himself - but that's already another story.

Or are the two related? (you bet they are. It's the same type of person that is capable of both lowly acts).

We should ask batgirl maybe. I once heard a version where he agreed with Steinitz not to resign since the public would get crazy when understanding and would annoy the other players.

About defenestrating, could be he was launched by his mother-in-law, mine would be very capable.

....to your therapist ?

And remember to include whowhatwherewhenwhy....& how.

<Pulpofeira> It's very nice, natural and extremely human to give people discounts and sugar-coat their acts... however I don't belong to that school of thought :-)

Agree, my mother-in-law would launch me through the wall instead of the window.
