I believe being an Indian helps a lot in believing this.

I thought he won a rapid chess.

:)

Lol.

TihidiKunmun

Then why he is regarded as the strongest rapid player of his generation.

Who said?

Somebody has to be the strongest rapid player of every generation.

But I don´t know who was better in the entire history of rapid chess (Tal and Fischer also came to mind).

Scottrf

Doubtful that he is or ever has been better than the Carlsen of today.

TihidiKunmun:  Yes.

Capablanca was a strong rapid player in his day.  He saw everything quickly.  But I venture to say Anand is stronger.

@OP:

Rumors or (he is regarded as bla bla) is not enough reason for me. You have to show proof if you are offering something whether likely or unlikely.

On a sidenote I would say playing good rapid chess has to do with pure chess talent. And talent in chess is sometimes called "Capablancaism".

I have read this :

In October 2003, the governing body of chess, FIDE, organised a rapid time control tournament in Cap d'Agde and billed it as the World Rapid Chess Championship. Each player had 25 minutes at the start of the game, with an additional ten seconds after each move. Anand won this event ahead of ten of the other top twelve players in the world, beating Kramnik in the final. His main recent titles in this category are at: Corsica (six years in a row from 1999 through 2005), Chess Classic (nine years in a row from 2000 through 2008), Leon 2005, Eurotel 2002, Fujitsu Giants 2002 and the Melody Amber (five times, and he won the rapid portion of Melody Amber seven times). In the Melody Amber2007, Anand did not lose a single game in the rapid section, and scored 8½/11, two more than the runners-up, for a performance rating in the rapid section of 2939.In most tournament time control games that Anand plays, he has more time left than his opponent at the end of the game. He lost on time in one game, to Gata Kamsky. Otherwise, he took advantage of the rule allowing players in time trouble to use dashes instead of the move notation during the last four minutes only once, in the game Anand versus Svidler at the MTel Masters 2006.

Now What,You people have to say about him (especially inrapid)

Carlsen>Anand

yureesystem

I don't know if Anand is one the best of all time but he is one my favorite player and possibly would of beat Carlsen in a blitz game. :)

Crazychessplaya

Lately, he tried playing rapid against Carlsen. Kinda didn't work out.

TihidiKunmun

Anand has always been renowned for the speed of his calculation and moves. His early classical games were often played at close to blitz speed and this prowess has stood him in good stead to enable him to become perhaps the greatest blitz and rapid player of all time. His prowess at quick-play chess has earned him the nickname "The Lightning Kid."

As a youngster, Anand was famous for his extremely rapid play even in regular tournaments. Judit Polgar (quite a strong blitz player herself) says thatwhen she first met Anand she couldn't believe how fast he was.

Every generation has it's candidates for best blitz player. At the conclusion of the USSR versus The World chess match in 1970, since all the world's top players were in one place, they decided to hold a 5-minute tournament. Robert Fischer crushed the field with a score of 19-3. 4.5 points(! )ahead of Mikhail Tal in second. So clearly he was the world's strongest blitz player in his time.

Here is the crosstable of that tournament:

I have to say that he won one World Rapid Championship, and that there were also other 5 world rapid champions. Why the World Rapid  Championship won by Anand is more important than the others W.R. Championships?
