Start keeping track of the openings you have the best and worst results with, and start ditching the openings with the worst results.

Concentrate on tactics and endgames.

Not if one wants to improve. At this level, if there's a certain type of position or opening one does not like, it means that one is bad at it.

Getting over 1800 was difficult for me, but I was eventually able to do it (and get to 1950) when I finished the book called "Combination Challenge" by Lou Hayes.  I'd reccomend that you read it, along with a whole bunch of other tactics book.

Also, keep playing.  Nobody ever improves they're rating without playing.  Play at least once a month, or as often as tournaments are available in you're area.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm doing a little bit better as of late. I jumped up to the mid 1600 once i got out of school and had some time to really pay attention to what i was doing. I appreciate the support that the members of this site offer. It always helps me in my journey to improve.
