On a personal note, I used to smoke 2.5 packets every day and in my lifetime around 350.000 cigarettes. My mother asked why is my mortgage bond not paid up, I was too embarrassed to say that I smoked up the bond. I had coughing fits in the morning with the first one and at night after dinner with the last one. Every time I looked in the mirror I saw an idiot and knew it. Then at 10:00 am 17 June 2012 I ran out of cigarettes, it was a Sunday, and I thought I get some later or on Monday. I was also curious to see what will happen now. You know what happened ? Absolutely nothing. No craving, shakes or shivers, as if I had never smoked at all. Everybody has a switch which you use in the cinema, airplane, or wherever you may not smoke. Once you switch it on, you do not miss smoking at all. Also, apparently, the more you smoke, the easier it is to quit. When a 14 year old asks his 50 cigarettes a day father, daddy when can I start smoking, this father says only three words "Don't be stupid". Final comment - When you see smokers once you have given up, you do not feel disgust - you feel pity. Because it is so easy. On a negative note, the money you save is nowhere to be found.

That part I agree with! lol

I tried the patches, the e-cigarettes. I tried a bunch of things. Finally the only way i could quit was cold turkey.

(The other negative part was all the weight i gained after i quit. they werent kidding there!)

Weight gain I must agree with. You are always hungry.  When I smoked I never ate breakfast or lunch, only dinner. Gained about say 10 pounds after quitting. But would have lost about 40 pounds or more on a breathing apparatus with emphyzema.  Would have lost all my weight in a coffin.  Bottom line - non smokers die healthier.  There is no such thing as cold turkey with cigarettes - Once your subconscious agrees with your conscious, they both shake hands to quit, there are ZERO withdrawal symptoms. I did not believe it myself when it happenend. What I did notice after about 2-3 days, was the nicotine stench that came out of my carpets, curtains and worn clothing. Your sense of smell improves astronomically. Your tongue surface and taste buds regenerate and after a week or two you have a beer, it's like fireworks on your tongue !!

I quit the cigs 25 years ago, but I did have the withdraws, I wanted to fight everyone who look at me wrong.  For 2 weeks I was like the Tasmanian Devil luckily I didn't have any quabbles!
