That's awesome! Is it metal, and if so, do the pieces have felt on the bottoms?
Congrats on a beautiful chess table :)

Thanks :) On the seller's description sheet it said that the frame and legs were lacquered maple hardwood and that the pieces were steel or steel and resin - yes the pieces have felt-like bottoms. The raised squares are hardened glass of some sort...
Whoever made it certainly thought out of the box where the pieces are concerned, sort of reminds me of something you might have seen in an old Hammer House movie
Right, found my tape measure reel and the table is approx 19 inches square and 14.5 inches high and the raised playing area is 15.25 inches square
I don't know if the table has anything to do with the set. Could it be that she was trying to get rid of the table, and just decided to put the set on it ??
That's really neat. The bishops look like worms. What's the US dollar to pound exchange?
Just googled currency converter and it was $1.70 to £1.00 so it would have been about $125.80

Don't know if the seller or concession holder is F or M as there was no one there other than the flea market manager, but I'm of the impression that the whole thing was custom made to begin with which is why I bought it.
Just want to add, if the table had nothing to do with the playing pieces to begin with why would the maker have put 64 alternately coloured squares on it?
Just bought this unusual looking chess table and set that I saw in an old flea market purely by chance, asking price was a shade over £74 but I bought it anyway. I still don't know if I really like it or not but there was just something about it...
