Did Kasparov have anything to do with this museum stunt?

He wasn't invited.  Apparently he's a biter.   Mad

Well I have heard people say he was biter about Carlsen but I thought he has taken it with dignity.

CalamityChristie

Are you sure you have your facts right ?

Didn't he just used to bite the caps off Carlsberg bottles ?

No.  You don't know your own country's laws regarding free speech.

Stanley Fish you should read.  And check out his other books, and New York Times columns on "free speech" writ large, then you might get off your silly soapbox.

And get back "on topic," whatever that was.

I am not a citizen of Australia, but I do know the the laws. Laws should not be confused with "rights" in the ethical sense. Laws can be, and often are, very unethical.

How on earth do you get the idea that if someone is not happy with the situation in Russia he/she should be happy with the situation anywhere else?

Now back to topic. Sorry everybody else.

CalamityChristie

could you just stick to chess when you are trying to teach those kids ?

I think we're all a little guilty of Garry Kasparov.

Politics - a dirty business!

There'll be a big clean square where his picture used to hang in the Kremlin

Garry Kasparov should represent the interests of decent people! In Russia, a lot of people whose freedom should be protected.

No if you use the image of mel gibson from braveheart as your avatar you are mispronouncing the F.r.e.e.d.o.m. word - it should be (Thae cannae take oor) FREEEEEEDDDDOOOOOOMMMMMMM.  Then I think you have to flash your bum or something.

And you are right he should represent decent people and hasn't.  Decent churchgoing people of Russia have been poorly represented by not only the protestors (and I admit they have done this) but also by the church which has endorsed Putin.  If I were heading the church in Russia though I would have likely done the same, I am not condemning them - with the history of the church's shaky ground with politicians in Russia and the undoubted backroom threats made to them even in these "more enlightened" times, they would have been clear where their allegiances had to lie publicly.  Not so sure an actual spiritual leader would have taken the side of either cause in this mess though.

i wonder what percentage of human bull has been stored on chess.com's server ?

Here_Is_Plenty You support Pussy Riot?

fabelhaft
What does it mean to "support Pussy Riot"? To say that they did something admirable, or to say that they were treated too harshly?
Here_Is_Plenty

Wallace NO I don't.  I think both sides have misrepresented the public.  As I said, the church establishment shouldn't have supported Putin but I can see why they did.  The protestors should pick their targets.  I do believe in legitimate protest but I dont think they were right in this case.  I am not a churchgoer but from the limited information I have it appears it was an offensive act to the people of Russia given the history of the church's persecution and the nature of it.

Wallace2004

Stephen, you're right! If you want to know more Russian people come to visit us. In my city of Vologda! it is in the north of Russia. If you get a chance, come. All come, I invite you.

CalamityChristie
