I'm afraid that is dead-on accurate. Karpov's results against younger players have been quite disappointing. Probably the age gap is finally going to sink Karpov into retirement...but who knows? After all, they do know each other a whole lot...AND Kasparov's been away from professional chess for quite a while - I reckon coaching Carlsen doesn't qualify as match preparation.
So...maybe Kasparov 6,5 - Karpov 5,5.
Even with Kasparov being inactive, I can't see Karpov winning. I know he won their mini-blitz match a few years ago but Karpov's recent form has been terrible. Perhaps age is finally catching up with him. I predict Kasparov to win by at least 2 points.
