knight or bishop?

Most people like the knights better (even as their favorite piece) and I never understood that because I think the bishops are ALOT better. Can someone explain this to me...

Why do you think that most people like the Knights better? Bishops are generally considered slightly better in most situations. But their value is specific to the situation on the board, for instance in a closed game the Knights may be more useful.

BBR08, thinking either piece is inherently alot better is an error that can hold back your chess. It depends on the position--71% of folks on chess.com agree. ;)

knights just because i see more maneuverability with the knights especially on a closed board..

Both!

Piece value is dependant on the position. For instance in some positions a Bishop may be worth more than a Rook! It happened in one of my recent games that his Bishop was the main defender of his isolated King, so I sacked my (in the position) passive Rook for it and won quickly afterwards.
