Not necessarily so, but certainly more motivated and at a better physical condition. In any case, Vlad is currently the one and only player who would have reasonable chances in a match against Magnus. The rest are simply not good enough for him (yet?).

what about nakamura? or levon
Please Kramnik, save us from this reign of kids.
I don't have high hopes :(, but I still think a kramnik in hist best shape truly going for it is mad genius.
I'm just grasping at straws because I'd like to see close tournaments in the next few years.
I don't see how Magnus can win in a match vs Nakamura (with black glasses), Aronian, or Kramnik. Even Caruana is better than him in a match.
Be careful here here, I mean in a match, not in a tournament. Do they have ever met in matches?

You know, I like Nakamura, but saying that a player who is 0-7 in his career against Magnus is a sure win...hmmm...you seem more than a little biased against Carlsen.
Then again, I am completely biased against Mr. Bean as a comedian because he's so insipid, so...I get it.
yea, but he had a lot more losses
Perhaps its time for the chess world to appreciate a player who plays to win and we have less draws ? Or would people have it both ways if it were possible ?
It's not about results it's about knowledge and skills. Kramnik plays the best chess. Magnus relies on cheap tricks in almost all of his games.
I am laughing at the absurdity of any top GM falling for "cheap" tricks...if they are fooled Carlsen outplayed them. So much for your cheap trick...

Naka is consistently crushing Carlsen, excluding seven slightly unlucky instances. He has not managed to win a single game against him yet, but this isn't such an imporant issue- is it?
But in theory, everybody could have a chance now, if Carlsen opts for a lucrative actor/ model career, and stops working on chess. Else, their chances are a bit higher than minimal.
Let's put this to rest; Carlsen had a relatively bad tournament and won, Kramnik had a damn good tournament and came second.
+1
@ greedypawn grabber
...what a hypocrite for calling Carlsen a player who uses cheap and dirty tricks to win his games...

A new strategy from the guy who just cannot accept that Carlsen is the strongest player in the world at the moment, no matter what new evidence comes in.
He won't acknowledge it until Carlsen has beaten every other top player in a match, and since we all know that matches don't happen that often, he's found a way to maintain the self-delusion for quite a few years more at a minimum.
Of course, even if that did happen, he would just retreat to a different specious argument.
You know, I like Nakamura, but saying that a player who is 0-7 in his career against Magnus is a sure win.
In case you don't remember Nakamura crasched Carlsen 2-1 in blitz match. And the stats for Nakamura vs Carlsen from 2005 -2013 (Tal Memorial) is -7 + 0 =13 on various Occasions.
So for a match I think Nakamura will repeat the history.

Nakamura crashed Carlsen in blitz match. Well, it's bliz and it's a match.
