If Anand really were better than Kramnik, history wouldn't wait for Vlad to beat Kasparov. Anand is excellent player, someone to call "ethernal 2nd". Never the best. Beating Kramnik in next year match would be a first class sensation. Vlad proved to be better in both their games in Mexico, putting huge pressure both with white and black. Only strategical approach for Anand to save some chances in match is to play different oppening every game ( to avoid Kramnik's preparation, which is proved to be the strongest). This borders with impossible, as Anand's chances for win also.

They're going to have a rematch for the world title, so we will soon find it out.

I think that they are all so much better than me it would churlish to judge!Innocent

However in terms of style I've learnt more looking at the games of Topalov and Anand than I have from Kramnik. So for my money: Anand>Topalov>Kramnik.

However, note that this is based on my preference rather than any objective measure of strength. Maybe Kramnik is so far beyond me that I just don't get him!

Fischer was superior to any of them. As was Akiba Rubenstien when in his prime! Chess has advanced so much since the days of Alekhine,Lasker,Capablanca ,Pillsbury, Charousek,Spielmann, Marcozy Frank Marshall,Paul Keres ,Rueben Fine.

The greatest that never became world champion are  Akiba Rubenstien Paul Keres , David Bronstien and Rueben Fine. Perhaps Bronstien even rates higher than any of them even higher than Akiba! --SIXGUNS

Kramnik is only superior to Anand in his absolute refusal to yield to defeat. He has that in common with the greatest ever Robert Fischer!

Kramnik

I like Anand until you put him next to Kramnik. The chess world should count his blessing when these two square off next year--it will be a battle reminiscent of Tal-Botvinnik 1960.

Don t exclude Topalov!he has the right to a title rematch..this time in Sofia

I don't like kramnick, he is no hero. He may be next to impossible to beat, but he doesn't have flair, he wins by grinding down his opponents with technical wins. His games are dull. Anand on the other hand is an Indian hero. He is one of the few Indian Gm's I know (the only infact) and one of the best at that. His games are always interesting, and basically I like him better. I wish Fischer were here, then it wouldn't matter.

Topalov has no right to anything until he fires his manager; Danailov brings disrepute to chess.

I can't agree more to the statement above.

Kasparov and Fischer are the two greatest chess players of all time.

Anand has a plus record with Kramnik and is higher rated and won the Mexico tournament without a defeat. If Morozevich and Shirov can beat Kramnik then certainly Anand can........IF he can keep him from going to the WC every other move!  Smile

That is just stupid. Does anyone really take those accusations serious?? That is whole point. Anand can win a tournament, but match??
OSIRIS_007

Personally I would be happy with either holding the crown; they are both excellent players. As for who I beleive will win? Kramnik has proved his ability in matches; his style suits them perfectly, so I beleive he will win the match. I can't wait for that match, it will be exciting. Plus, Kramnik's style is very similar to my own, so I'm sure to learn a lot just by watching his games.

I also think Kramnik deserves to hold the title at least for a little while after what happened in Elista. As for the issue with Topalov? I believe what happened in Elista was unacceptable, however I don't know how much of it was his manager and how much of it was him, so I will withhold opinion.

Despite your anger to Danailov, Topalov does has the right to a rematch. And i m sure playing at home he will recover the title.
