When is it logical to liquify the center?

VULPES_VULPES

What exactly is "liquifying the center"?

Not exactly chess terminology.

when your opponent's potential to advance is a threat

VULPES_VULPES doesn't exactly have any business telling anyone about terminology:

He meant "liquefy the tension in the center."

Stop talking down to people.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

When your own development is at risk of being held up and you can't afford an unstable situation in the centre. I think that's what Nimzowitsch said in My System, more or less.

It is logical to liquefy the center whenever you have both a plastic chess board and a need for a funnel.

  • Apply torch to center to soften
  • Stretch softened plastic board over a suitable mandrel (a funnel would be suitable)
  • Punch, melt, or burn out the center, leaving a hole of an appropriate diameter

Et voilà! Now you have a super cool checkerboard pattern funnel to impress your friends, get members of the sex you find most attractive beating each other in the head with whiffle bats fighting for a chance to have your attention, and become rich beyond your wildest dreams.

If you really want to impress your friends, use a marble or granite board to make your funnel.  It takes a tremendous amount of heat to melt the rock, but the results are so totally worth it when you get to sit back and watch a Hunger Games style death match as members of the sex you find most attractive fight to the death for a chance to touch your magnificent funnel board.

Unhelpful as always
