losers that stop playing when they see they are losing

I wonder if  asking your opponent to "surrender" is considered bad sportsmanship. I usually tell my opponent to surrender when I see that they have a very bad position. But I rarely resign in a game even when checkmate is obviously coming and I end up losing the game. I prefer to fight until the end comes.

One time, I only had pawns and my opponent had a BIG advantage over me. I asked for a draw three times and then offered a draw with a comment saying "last chance" as if I had a secret plan. He said, "ok lets draw." Now I would like to know if that is legal on chess.com.Staff Member  erik, I would like to know if that is legal. I'd rather not lose my membership

When I reach a losing position,  i.e.  one I can't salvage,  unless time is almost out, I'll ask my opponent if he wants me to resign or if he wants the pleasure of mating my King.  When my opponent has a lost game and asks for a draw (repeatedly is  so unacceptable in my book, it's underlined, highlighted and footnoted), I lose all respect for him and put him on my no-play list. I don't like gamesmanship anymore than I like takebacks.

I find your comments on this post enlightening, but if the rube that walks out on a game is just blocked from the individual, how will everyone else know about the bad sport. It is frustrating to to enter a game expecting the best and get some opponent that believes it is acceptable behavior to just walk on a game.

I just played a game against Hero44 and he walked out on the game with over 20min. to go.

This is how I am going to handle this. I will list the players name on this forum topic.

Ok so for the position shown its ok to think for 3 minutes about Re2+, then 3 minutes for Bg4+, then another 3 minutes about Rf7+, but after the king moves to the back rank its not acceptable. (a respectable opponent).
In some positions Its hard to tell whether there is a way to avoid checkmate.
For the position shown black cannot mate on f2 without a blunder from white (as far as I know), however mate against black can be avoided for a while. I can't see any reason why to stop the player who was using black from thinking about the position for the time given to play the game. For the people who simply leave the game the problem is that they might have real connection issues, but the disrespect by not moving for the rest of the allocated time is a bit rude and unneccessary.

This is against the FIDE laws of chess, obviously the other question is if chess.com will punish someone for it. I guess if someone make a complaint that you'd be warned by the staff.

FIDE laws of chess:

12.6

It is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any manner whatsoever. This includes unreasonable claims, unreasonable offers of a draw or the introduction of a source of noise into the playing area.

make me a loser but as a rule for myself, if i play with a 200+ rating player above me and i loose a Knight or a Bishop then i consider my fight is for nothing and the game is kind of over. Rather than continuing the struggle on a lost game i start another one, i'll learn from the made mistake and try to improve my game.

This is it.

I am currently in a game with LeoSucks. He abandoned the game with more than 40 minutes left. Not only this, but he makes chat comments to try and keep me distracted, so I know he is there. I will ban him from my list and I hope everyone else does as well.

Oh trust me, I experienced this many times. Since I am still in the beginner zone, this is really common. Once my opponent left the game with 5 mins left. I mean Why?

what is it with people resurrecting years old threads lately?

pieterdekker

What most of the time helps is if answer: thanks for the coffee break.

Opps I forgot this thread was a few years old. Looks like I did not check the date.

It's still a valid question. I look at it like this: If they just let their clock run because they have a bad attitude then it only helps me anyway. I get an easier win, less effort.

Some people do get impatient and just resign. Later block that player, or abort games every time you have to play them.

why isnt there a tag that we could put on players that just stop playing and let their time go till the end when they see that they are losing. I'm pissed off, they make me lose my time and im sure a lot of people would like to know which players are gonna do that when they lose.

sorry for the language but its really a pain in the neck

I find it is better when they ask for a draw instead, in those cases I usually accept.  The problem is that most chess players who behave like that just want you to resign the game out of frustration, anyways, cheaters are even worse...

yummcandy
I honestly don’t think I do that but if my opponent is I’d just start smiling

punishment for this is coming soon. we track it now, but soon these kinds of abusers will be limited in their ability to accept game seeks, etc.

I was excited to see this, then saw the date - 2010

They are losers, just read something until he´s frustrated enough

mosheon970

seems like you people cant follow the rules? there is timer and rules, if u win while the person let his time runs out then play shorter time games if it annoys u, if the people take long time to think then its their fault, if u always encounter people like that then play against high elo computers. the nasty people that play for long time games and barely move it dosent matter. if their time runs out they are losing, u can get a cup of coffee or whatever u have to do in the house in the meantime if u see that they are taking too long, take some air and come back and check in the game, if they still afk, just ignore it and start a new game, if this repeats then play against computers or just go for blitz games.

TheCalculatorKid

I've never understood the frustration here. When you sign up to a game you commit to the full time scale. If the opponent stops moving they cannot win, which means you'll win, which is the whole point of the game.
