Losing in Chess gives more pain than losing in any other sport.

Chess isn't a sport by definition by the International Olympic Committee....and that makes sense. It's, by far, the world's most popular board game. But, if it had any assemblance of a sport, it'd be in the Olympics by popularity alone. Trust me - they have it right.

as stated in the wiki "The prospects of chess becoming an Olympic sporting event at some future date remain unclear. "

Hey, that's it !....Let's get it in the Olympics. That way we can have Ouija, Operation, and all the other board games too....Smile....and then let's extend it into video games !

Chess is no more a sport than Twister.

TheYear9876

its a game.

Great Twister metaphor.  +1

I've thought more about the IQ element being sine qua non to being good at chess.  Not necessarily. It isn't rocket science. The rules are laid out plainly. What you need is a brain - a powerful one - that can endure intense concentration and work out combinations of moves (faster than your opponent) without getting distracted and losing track. You need a brain the can "compute". That is why Deep Blue is just as good a chess player as Kasparov. I doubt very much that Deep Blue or Kasparov could be a Max Planck.

Feufollet

Case in point, a gm can explain the chess moves of a game won to a 800 level chess player and the latter will say "Oh, I get it. Why didnt I see that!?" The same cannot be said if the  physicists were to try to explain some of the theories  - relativity, quantum mechanics, etc. to even the best of players here...except those here who ARE already in the sciences who just happen to like playing chess.

As far as Im concerned, higher IQ = relative increase in chess ability. If you have a higher IQ it does not define you as a better chess player or immediately define you as having more potential than a lower IQ individual.

Yes, but that's kinda like kissing your brother....

I feel the same way sometimes E_7....but I'm thinking more of something like driving my high heel thru their foot (under the table).

Pretty clear to me...none.

LivingLifeForLove

OUCH!!!! That would hurt. Dang The_Ghostess_Lola, I'd hate to see what you would do if you lost a tournament ;D. JK. I'm only messing with you. That does sound as if it would hurt though. A high heel going through someones foot. Ewww! lol.

Yea, I get annoyed to the point I run around swearing and stuff, but not to the point of being physical on someone. Especially losing won games. Ive played a few in the last couple of days, and now to the point I need a few days off to recompose myself lol

Is the International Olympic Committee the arbitrator of what is and is not sport? Baseball isn't in the Olympics, so is baseball not sport? Ping-pong, one the other hand, is in the Olympics. So is Ping-Pong more of a sport than chess or baseball? The IOC is a corrupt organization motivated by politics and money, not sport. I wouldn't put much stock into what they think.
