Even GMs lose to kids
Yeah . Still sucks.
It will happen rarely man. I beat an adult who had been playing chess for a long time and by the picture I think he was 30-40! He was beating me when I got to do that trick with the rook (and look at my bad moves!: https://www.chess.com/daily/game/165742260 Last of all, I am very bad at chess and am a 12 year old kid.
Don't wing it. I'm sure you'll claw back beakause you've got talent and I'll egg you on.
wow!!!!
*speechless*
THANK YOU!
yes it is!!!
I hate to play with kids too.You will be paired with him and then crush him
as a 13-year-old, I crushed people from all ages. 8 to 65. ( I once lost to a +85 man . serious. )
1.f4 isn't so bad, by the way, that you should be embarrassed to lose to it, not even if you're a GM.
Just in case, god forbid the kids crush you like a potatoe...you have the forums to come home and weep i guess.
When I was around 1750 USCF, I lost to a 1300s 12 year old in an Alekhine's Defense because I underestimated his knowledge of the line and played far too aggressively. I later found him outside reading a heavily used book on the opening.
I would be worried too, unless there some other chess, com newbies about you going to get battered.
Seriously though, well done for making the effort to enter a real tournament. Sure you will enjoy it, battered or not

I too thought what kind of move is f4... I will thrash this kid and make him never play f4 again.
But the he was really good in the opening and got the attack really nice on me.
almost any opening is playable if used by a good player (except a3, a4, h3, h4). never underestimate any opponent.
honestly i didnt underestimate him..
I just thought its not a good opening and i played e5
Nf6 is the correct approach which I came to know after looking it online.
I am going to play my first ever rated tournament from 12th July and so I went for enrolment. I had a game with a kid who is being taught by one of the Tournament Organisers who is also a Chess Coach.
I lost pretty badly when he attacked my pieces with Bird's Opening.
Feel Bad and Giving second thoughts to what will happen with me on the tournament.
I am out of practice and my openings need development.
