I do not understand how this turned into a form of witch hunt.

Mr. Tsvetkov is a former diplomat , therefor we can not fault his character .

He gave up his career to focus on analyzing chess and working on chess engines.

He helped develop Stockfish no less.

He is practically a chess god

I leave you with this part of a review:

In the last couple of years he has been very active in contributing to develop
Stockfish, the strongest chess engine on Earth.
In 2017, he published The Secret of Chess, a ground-breaking work, exploring
unchartered territories of chess knowledge

Whoa whoa whoa. LT is NOT a chess god. He is a hard worker, I grant you that, but no one will ever be a chess god.
Duck-Season

I suppose it depends on definition Cellomaster but compared to many who would criticize Mr Tsvetkov he is a chess god.

By this I mean far more advanced than probably about 99% of players

If he was legit, it would take him just a few months to prove his claims, and his book would make him rich.

Just win one or two strong open tournaments as a relative nobody and you're on everyones radar.

I dont think superior chess understanding and skills is enough to win an otb tournament. You also need otb tournament experience.

Duck-Season

Well Petrip he still gave up his life to dedicate his time to chess, you don’t just get to work on creating Stockfish because you like chess. Somebody clearly thinks his claims are not that funny.

It is at least worth looking at the book before criticizing.

I'm not even going to bother with you. You're a known troll clearly trying to stir the pot. Now get out of here before everyone on this thread reports you.

Hi Lyudmil. Nice to see you again. tongue.png

Just because he’s good, even if he’s 3500, doesn’t mean that he can write. We need proof of that, which he is failing to provide.

Due to unsubstantiated funny claims by Tsvetkov.  I mean if you claim to be about Elo 3000 please prove it. And no excuses for not proving it.  Quite unlikely that his book is worth reading. At least I will not invest money nor time on it

Yet you invest time (and insults) on this and other threads about a book you never read.  Hmm.

Everyone can go to Amazon and get the first 20 or so pages of The Secret of Chess, (as well as my fav, Human Versus Machine, Part 1) for free!  Why not give it a fair read, and then report back honestly?  Hmm?

Of course then you might not be able to stay in the safety of this Internet mob mentality.  Hmm!

I did look. Book was close to unreadable and information contained (assuming it correct in the first place)  is of no practical value. Seriously? Learning tables of centipawn penalties for having a piece in some specific place?  So to have any interest on these books some evidence, which can come by only by mister Elo 3000 showing it in controlled environment. Before that it is just empty noise

Fair enough, but what about a quick romp through the free Kindle sample of Human Versus Machine, Part 1 from amazon.com?  It is awesome.  Amazingly well-annotated games, some covering positions and ideas rarely seen elsewhere.   https://www.amazon.com/Human-Versus-Machine-Stockfish-Komodo-ebook/dp/B0768G8R2C/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=,  It is well-written and easy to understand, and much more our speed.

I really would like your take.  See also https://www.expert-chess-strategies.com/human-versus-machine.html

Thank you!

Whether the guy's any good or not, beware of ANY book that claims it will provide you with "The Secret" of anything: such books are aimed at lazy people who don't want to put in the hard work that is unquestionably needed to be good in the field, no matter if it's chess, the stock market, calculus, piano playing, football, etc.

Post #157 Nothing special, any 1500 could see that position is a draw.

But not explain it scientifically.

SF, for example, does not know it is a draw.

The trick is to GET there.

Do you think every 1500 could get there when playing against SF?

You think that of GM John Nunn's Secrets of Practical Chess??  His Secrets of Grandmaster Play??

Really???

This has gotten way out of hand. Everyone agrees (Other than Lyudmil of course) that Lyudmil is someone who has not broken 2200 FIDE, wrote a book that got lots of criticism, thinks he is the strongest chess player in the world other than Carlsen, can beat every engine, and spends his entire day on the Chess.com forums looking for haters. The End.  Lyudmil is probab;y going to blow up after he reads this though.

On the contrary, I liked it a lot. happy.png

Take a look at the TOC: https://www.amazon.com/Secret-Chess-Lyudmil-Tsvetkov/dp/1522041400#reader_1522041400

Why would anyone need to hate or criticise such a book?

first you claim to be stronger than carlsen, now you claim you've written the only book worth reading. you're either delusional or one of the most persistent trolls i've ever seen. bye.
