Magnus and his jeans - dress and act like a brat, be treated like one.

Magnus needs to take a year off and find other hobbies and have some fun. He can always play stockfish when he wants some chess practice. He also did not want to defend his title.

It's as if Magnus won this whole feud. He's still playing in jeans after talking with the president of fide and the main sponsor of the event.
Magnus: Take that... checkmate.
Tournament directors:

Why all the fuss?
It's not as though it was chess; it was rapid or bullet or something.
Fide gave up all credibility when they first agreed to host such vulgar and deviant variations of the game. The veneer of imposing a dress code on procedings was never capable of bestowing dignity either on the occassion or the participants. That so many of the competitors are raffish and louche sorts was always inevitable as was the challenge to even the pretence of civility.

Not famous enough, since you couldn't remember his name
He's actually pretty famous to anyone who cares about math cause he proved Fermat's Last Theorem. his name is Andrew Wiles

And if someone showed up nude? You can't do whatever you want and not expect repercussions. FIDE has every right to make rules for their own tournaments. If you want to participate, then follow the rules.

Here's what I think happened. Magnus realised he was going to be late so skipped the changing trousers part so he could get there in time. "They'll be hidden under the table so hopefully nobody will notice" might have gone through his mind.

Hans still holds a grudge against Magnus and will just take the most anti-Magnus position he can imagine regardless of whether it's true, he does this sort of thing often, he obviously has a personality disorder... you're a fool if you take his opinion seriously, there's no empirical evidence substantiating it... FIDE has a long history of disagreements with top chess players, by all appearances the incident was instigated by FIDE... FIDE created the issue of playing tournaments hosted by other companies by threatening to disallow it, and FIDE subsequently had conflicts not only with Magnus, but others such as Nepo and Nakamura ...
But even if Magnus had planned this, which I don't believe and there's no evidence of, the fact remains that applying a rule like that in such a rigid unyielding way is just dumb and pointless, someone playing a game in jeans and committing to change for the next one should never be such a big problem.

And Magnus, like everyone else, has the right to tell FIDE: F U
If FIDE doesn´t like the way we dress or look we can play chess without them and they can run their tournaments without us. Obviously. The relevant question is what is more important: To make chess as inclusive as possible or to enforce some ridiculous dresscode.

Sometimes ya get tired of the I'm somebody stuff. We know he's the best in the World. So, he doesn't need to tell us about it. He is not the only one in the boat.

Sounds very like Britain's attempted negotiations with the EU. I think we shouldn't have bothered, after their intentions became obvious and it's the same with FIDE. Set up an alternative chess governing body and make it work. Not one based in Switzerland, France or Belgium and not based in the USA either. Maybe in relatively neutral ground, such as Germany.
Ermm...

Lol. Magnus was just being Magnus. If someone had tried to tell me to go back to my hotel and change while numerous other people were also in clear violation, I'd have done the same.
The CEO of FIDE (read: "appointed stooge with barely any qualifications to run any company much less FIDE") was just trying to flex and learned what he would already know if he were competent...his power/influence relies on chess players and he is nobody. Ergo, FIDE now has egg on their face and had to cave in completely.
Just a few days ago:
The hypocrisy is thick.

Magnus needs to take a year off and find other hobbies and have some fun. He can always play stockfish when he wants some chess practice. He also did not want to defend his title.
So, in your mind, he should continue to spend 5 out of 12 months of his year grinding and prepping to play matches that are not a challenge for him. Lol.
Modern chess has evolved into a travesty. Teams prepping engine lines for months on end just trying to trick/trap the other side into playing a human game against an engine line. He owes you nothing. He's just playing a game. As has been obvious since he stopped playing the matches, whether he has the official title or not is barely relevant...everyone still knows he's the best.
Kasparov should have finished the job on FIDE, he just picked a bad time to jump (Nigel Short...ugh).

>He's actually pretty famous to anyone who cares about math cause he proved Fermat's Last Theorem. his name is Andrew Wiles<
Andrew Wiles never left his jacket in place of a speech due to a dress code. That whole story of some self-righteous math teacher is hogwash.

Y'all can dither over this all you want, but two points are inescapable:
1) The rules are the rules. If you don't want to follow them, don't show up.
2) Telling FIDE "f**k you" during an interview is just crass and immature.
Magnus may be a great chess player, but he didn't show any class or leadership here. I'm glad Gukesh is our World Champion now. Magnus has retired from that role...he should take a cue from Kasparov on how to do it with dignity. Throwing a hissy fit over his pants is not a good look.

Your claim there is by no means inescapable, since it's based on an assumption that just authority is pure arbitrary will untethered by reason, I've already pointed out why this is nonsense and won't be adopting a bootlicking philosophy such as that one anytime soon. At least not willingly.
Though something about your choice of words tells me you're really just a Hans fanboy in disguise.
Admit it, how many of you are in trouble if chess.com introduces a "no jeans" rule?
I'd be in trouble if they introduce a "no pants" rule.
