I think most of Norwegians would accept if Caruana won. and let him feel the happiness from the players who admire his game. I would personally be happy for Caruana if he won. And would never call him a embarressment.

The guy who started this thread was calling Carlsen an embarrassment to chess for offering a draw in a better position.
I personally think it should have ended as a drawn match, with Carlsen retaining the title. This would have also driven Carlsen to offer a draw in a better position. Maybe then no body would call him a disgrace?
It seems people are more angry about the tie breakers and 12 draws than Carlsen's actions … after all, his actions were a result of the circumstances.

The ignorance being shown here goes beyond the sensibilities of objectivity. Think because a computer gives a +1 evaluation, a position is winning? How little these people understand the game they play. The quality of chess between the two best human chess players was of the highest level. Defensive skills have improved greatly, no longer is chess simply about attack, attack throw caution to the wind. If the opponent does not make a mistake, this tactic results in a loss. In blitz, go for it. Humans will err. But it is classical chess, the WC should be decided by such.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the average [not by rating] chess player. There was 1 game where a "win" was missed. [It's a match between two human players]. With the comments made in this thread, a non-playing observer might conclude the posters here think they would win the games. Complete rubbish of course. All I see are young kids seeking attention, showing no respect for MC and FC.
1) In one of the earlier games, FC offered a draw to MC when he was ahead just a tad, and when he might have won that game. MC felt he 'owed' FC such a favour as a matter of gentleman's etiquette.
2) He knew he would be much stronger than FC in rapid games, so he made that play to his advantage. It was simply a tactical/strategic decision.
3) We don't know about backroom deals/pressures. Chess world is as dirty as the world of other sports. From top officials to the betting mafia, there are many influencers. Maybe both players were 'steered' towards playing 12 draws in a row because almost no one in the world would have bet on that happening before the duel had started, so there was a lot of money lost by the betting community.
In the end, the better player won. Of course, leave it to the internet to disparage that... Some random chess.com user 'criticizes' the Champion of the World... It's like a basketball street hustler dissing Michael Jordan for missing one three pointer in an important game. Everyone's a f*ing critic nowadays. If you've got anything to say about top chess players in the world - go and prove yourself against them, or shut the f up.
To suggest the chess world is "dirty", that either MC or FC would even consider "match fixing" is IRRESPONSIBLE and shameful. Certainly, FIDE has issues over credibility. But to include the top players in the world, making claims they are dishonest and taking bribes, borders on being liable.
The "betting mafia" and "a lot of money lost" over the WC Match??? Total horse manure. Just another example of the stupidity being expressed in this thread.
