The Tiger Woods of Chess. Whats your take on the segment?

DocRoy

Maurice is a valuable asset to the chess community.  We need more positive role models like him in the US.

If you make a thread based on every post you make in another thread, your number of threads will grow exponentially. And it's already rediculously large.

But to the question- no. Not the tiger woods of chess. At all.

chessoholicalien

Tiger Woods has been a dominant force in professional golf, Ashley has not done the same in professional chess.

Hmm, I beg to differ.  I think Maurice is the Tiger Woods of Golf in the US. Outside of the US, then thats a different story.  But Maurice can hang with the best of them.

A simple typo.....Maurice Ashley is the Tiger Woods of CHESS in the US.

chessoholicalien

I don't see any hate here, just a statement of the facts. Ashley has not achieved in chess what Woods has achieved in golf. Why can you not see that? And I agree Ashley is good role model for (African-)American chess.

I can beat Rybka if it takes it's queen off the board. As can all intermediate players. And some beginners, too.

DocRoy

furthermore.....

Many GM's have tried, but Ashley and Englishman James Plaskett are the only two Grandmasters to have made it to the studio stage of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, each in his respective country.

Nytik

Has Tiger Woods made it to the studio stage of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

If he hasn't, that's a useless fact in this thread, isn't it?

Maurice Ashley is the best to me hands down.

Now that is an accurate statement.

Maurice is a world class chess player. A Grandmaster no less, and in which I dare say he would probably beat 95% percent of all chess.com members over the board. In saying that though, he still really hasn't made a major imprint on the international scene as Tiger Woods has in his profession. Maurice will have to prove himself OUTSIDE U.S. borders before I can make that comparison.

Most of nolaupt's post are just spam, he gets told something in one of his forums, and uses it as a new forum topic, and yes nolaupt your number of "haters" as you call them will grow if you continue to post these pointless posts, why a few weeks back, you made a post about you thinking magnus carlsen was the best, and then asking anyone on this site if they thought they could beat him, and you thought that there had to be someone on the site that could. You need to take more thought in what you post, and not post two new forums EVERY DAY, as it gets very annoying, and yes call me a hater.

Two words for you...

You are almost 30 and use the word "hustler" to describe yourself, I don't think anything more needs to be sayed.
